1- Norman G. White, 69, of Questa, NM. Passed away 31 Dec 1994. A Taos Jr. high school teacher. He retired in 1982 after 33 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Lily White, of Questa, NM; Son Don of Arvada, Co; Daughter Donna K. Baca of Las Vegas, NM and Danette White of Albuq. NM. 5 Jan 1995 A-11.

2- Paul G. Gibson, 84, died monday 2 Jan 1995. A resident of Taos, NM, since 1979, resident of Albuq, NM from 1949 to 1979. Born in Chanute, Kansas 20 July 1910. Survived bu wife, Grace Gibson of Taos, NM; Daughter Patricia Randall and husband John of Taos, NM. 12 Jan 1995 B-7.

3- Sylvan Poet, 89, A resident of Arroyo Seco, NM. Passed away 31 Dec 1994 at Holy Cross Hospital. He was born in Villar Pellice, Italy on 6 Sept 1905. Since Immigrating to the United States just before World War II. He served numerous communities as a Presbyterian Minister. He retired in Taos, NM in 1968. He was preceded in death by his wife Irene. Survived by son Paul, step-children Laverne Belt and Jennie Fanto. 12 Jan 1995 B-7.

4- Tito Quinto, 87, passed away in Albuq, NM. 6 Jan 1995. Preceded in death by his wife (name not listed). 5- Alfredo Dominguez, 94, resident of Chamisal, NM. Died 9 Jan 1994 (? 1995). He was born in Chamisal, Territory of New Mexico 14 Aug 1900 to Leon and Felicita Dominguez. He was preceded in death by his wife Rosinalda in 1990, son Manuel in 1984, daughter Isabelita in 1929. He is survived by sons Cosme (Lois) of Frazier, Ca, Alfredo Jr.(Nancy) Chamisal, NM, Rudy (Lupe) of Mesilla, Archie (Roberta) of Ash Fork Az, Adonais (Linda) of Denver, Co; Daughter Blanch (Santiago) Romero and Alice (Adonais) Gonzales of Vadito, NM, Rose (Leroy) Salazar of Chamita, NM and Jessie ( George) Tapia of Santa Fe, NM. 6- Rev Julian Duran, 97, retired Presbyterian Minister, died monday 9 Jan 1995. Preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Margarita in 1968. Survived by daughter Eleanor D. Hostetter and husband Harvey of Santa Fe, NM; Sons Julian H. and wife Marilyn of Albuq. NM and Tomas L. Duran and wife Betty of Pueblo, Co. He was born in Dixon, NM in 1898. He was a graduate of Manuel High School, attended COE College at Ceder Rapids, Ia,. and received his college degree from the college of Emporia, Ks. He earned his theological seminary in San Anselmo, Ca. He and his wife, Rosa served severl churches in Ranchos de Taos, Trementina, Chimayo, Truchas, Cordova, Penasco, NM and Trinidad, Co. 19 Jan 1995 B-6.

7- Ruben E. Trujillo, 75, of Los Cordovas, NM. Passed away at Presbyterian hospital in Albuq, NM 10 Jan 1995. He is survived by his wife Feloniz; Sons Octavio (Tina) of Denver, Co and Ben (Veronica) Trujillo of Taos, NM; Daughters Margie (Louis) Anglada of Taos, NM and Vickie (Richard) Abalos of Hurley, NM; Sister Adelaida Pacheco of Denver, Co. 8- Elena Bustos de Lucero, 102, of San Francisco (El Rito), Colorado died 9 Jan 1995. She was born 18 Aug 1892 in Cebolla, NM. Married Juan Antonio Lucero. Their families were some of the first settlers of the San Luis Valley Colarado. Having gone from Taos County, NM. Survived by daughter Fernanda Medina of Alameda, Ca. Adopted daughter Rosa Padilla from San francisco, Co. She adopted and raised numerous grand children, nephews and nieces. She was a Midwife and Curandera. 19 Jan 1995 B-7.

9- Ismael Vigil, 92, of Questa, NM. Passed away 10 Jan 1995 in Questa, NM. He was preceded in death by a son Paul Vigil in 1976. 10- Teodora Virginia Flores, 61, Passed away 18 Jan 1995 at Holy Cross hospital as a result of a Pedestrian/Motor Vehicle accident. Preceded in death by brother Orlando Cardenas. 11- Adolfo Jose Lavadie died tuesday 31 Jan 1995. A Taos, NM native he had lived in Jacksonville, Fl for 9 months. Survived by sons Charlie, Robert and Tony Lavadie; Daughters Jennie Ware and Dolores Ailstock. Buried at Edgewood Cemetery Jacksonville, Florida. 9

12- Esther A. Prunty, 76, of Red River, NM. Died 31 Jan 1995 in the long term care unit of the Conegos County Colorado hospital. Mrs Prunty was born 14 Dec 1918 in Alamosa, Co. The daughter of Clayton and Nona (Haddon) Ferrell. During world war II she worked as a riveter for the war effort in the Boeing Air Craft factory in Oregon. Following the war. Mrs. Prunty returned to Alamosa, Co, where she was employed at the Alamosa National Bank for 10 years. That is where she met Robert W. Prunty. They united in marriage in 1956. Mr. & Mrs. Prunty operated the Red River, NM post office for 27 years, until their retirement in 1985. Survived by her husband; Brother Dave (Betty) Ferrell of Flagstone, Az; Sister Lorene (Bill) Briggs of Apache Junction Az and twin sisters Winnifred (Carl) Olme of Brownsville, Tx and Mrs. Winnibeth Cook of Grand Junctiom, Co. 13- Herbert "Bert" Witka, 47, Passed away 3 Feb 1995 at Holy Cross Hospital, Taos, NM. Survived by daughter Meredith Amy Witka of San Diego, Ca; His parents Crucita and Ruben Vigil; Brothers Stanley Witka of Albuq, Nm and Orlando Vigil of Meza, Az; Sisters Yolanda Vigil (Mark) Henderson of Ely, Nv and Katherine Vigil of Denver, Co; His Fiance Teresita Sandoval of Taos, NM. He was a 1966 graduate of Taos High School and was a well known drummer with several bands in the Taos Area. Burial at the Valdez Cemetery. 9 Feb 1995 B-5.

14- Eloy J. Valerio, 90, of Pueblo, formerly of Swink, Co and Ranchos de Taos, NM. Passed away 5 Feb 1995. Preceded in death by his wife Veronize G. Valerio 30 July 1990, Daughters Alicia Valerio and Eleanor M. (Benny) Sena 2 Feb 1974, Parents Jesus Maria and Eduvigen Valerio, Brother Frank, Reginio, Inocencio, Maximiliano, Trinidad and Blas Valerio and Sister Alberta Valerio Gonzales. 15- Gordon Lee Tomlinson, Passed away at Plaza de Retiro Taos, NM 10 Feb 1995. He was born 11 Aug 1916 in Ft. Worth, Tx. Graduated from Texas Christian University and served in the military from 1941 to 1947. He was an officer in South Western Petroleum Corporation in Ft. Worth, Tx for 22 years, from 1972 to 1992. He was vice-president of weight watchers of Utah in Salt Lake City. He retired to Taos in 1992. He is survived by his wife Eileen McSweeney Tomlinson of Taos, NM; A brother D. F. Tomlinson of Grandberry, Tx; Son Ron Tomlinson of Ft. Worth, Tx and Taos, NM; Daughters Cathleen Tomlinson and Elyse Lorel, both of Taos, NM. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery Ft. 16- Maria "Elvia" Suazo, 76, of Dixon, NM. Passed away 7 Feb 1995 at her residence. Recently celebrating 58 years of marriage. Survived by her husband Joe Benito Suazo of Dixon, NM; Sister Madelina (Rumaldo) Gonzales; Brother Patricio (Gloria) Sanchez of Dixon, NM. Interment at Cooper Cemetery Dixon, NM. 16 Feb 1995 B-6.

17- Frank Efren Ortega, 61, of Questa, NM. Passed away 13 Feb 1995 at Taos, NM Holy Cross Hospital. Survived by wife Irene of Questa, NM; Daughters Joann Montoya, Ceceilia (Michael) Martinez and Dolores Cordova. all of Questa, NM; Sons Frank (Glenda) Ortega Jr. of Santa Fe, NM, David (Vivian) Ortega of Albuq, NM and Daniel (Loretta) Ortega of Albuq, NM; Sister Lorraine Vigil of Arroyo Hondo, NM; Brothers Jake Ortega and Manuel Ortega of Questa, NM. 20- Roy B. Varela Sr., 54, of Questa, NM. Passed away at Holy Cross Hospital Taos, NM. Survived by wife Roxanne of Questa, NM; Son Roy B. (Dinah) Varela Jr. of Albuq, NM; Daughter Nadine Varela (Larry Morris) of Questa, NM; Mother-in-law Crecelia Archuleta of Questa, NM; Brother Wilfred Varela of Pecos, NM; Sisters Diana Arguello of Pecos, NM, Gloria Towers of Az and Sally Baca of Santa Fe, NM. 22- Dora G. Martinez, 72, of Arroyo Seco, NM. Passed away at Holy Cross Hospital, Taos, NM on 22 Feb 1995. Preceded in death by daughter Bertha Martinez
She is survived by her daughter Marie (Jose Paul) Pacheco of Taos, NM; Grand Daughters Maria (Joe Ben) Pacheco and Cathy (Desie) Garcia of Taos, NM. Burial at the Arroyo Seco, NM Cemetery. 2 Mar 1995 A-17.

23- Dr. Charlotte Irene Lee, died 26 Feb 1995 at her apartment at Plaza de Retiro Taos, NM. Charlotte was born 13 Aug 1909 in Denver, Co. She received her B. A.& M. A. Degrees from Wichita State University and her Ph.D. from North Western University in Evanston, Illinois. She was a professor of speech communication for many years at North Western. Charlotte and her friend Eleanor Huff built a house in Des Montes, NM and retired here from the Chicago area in the 1960s. In July of 1992 they moved to La Plaza de Retiro. Ellie passed away in Oct of that year, Survived by niece Judy Lee Heflin of Gulf Port Mississippi and nephew James Terrence Lee III. 2 Mar 1995 A-17.

24- James Vance Smith, 34, of Taos, NM died at his residence 23 Feb 1995. Survived by wife Sarah; Son James; Mother Betty Kurps; Father Larry Smith and brother Darrl Smith. 2 Mar 1995 A-17.

25- Anne S. Goldsmith, 85, passed away 4 March 1995 at the Plaza de Retiro Taos, NM. Survived by children Grace Wahba of Madison, Wi, Sydney Goldsmith of Taiwan and Linda Stenseth of Arroyo Seco, NM; Brother Morris Stolar of Maryland. Prior to moving to Taos, NM, Mrs. Goldsmith was a leader in charitable organizations in Montclair, Nj. Graveyard service at Eretz Shalom Cemetery in Llano Quemado, NM. 9 March 1995 B-3.

26- Cipriano Salazar, 78, of Amalia, NM. Passed away 5 March 1995. He was born 26 Nov 1916 to Emjtelio and Ramoncita Salazar. Survived by wife of 56 years Rufina Cortez Salazar; Children Vangie (Edmundo) Martinez of Las Vegas, NM, Eralia (Lloyd) Torres of Denver, Co, Cipriano Jr. (Lusia) Salazar of Costilla, NM, Christine (Petro) of Denver, Co, Larry (Grace) Salazar of Amalia, NM. 27- Eliza M. Salazar, 87, passed away in Albuq, NM 4 March 1995. 28- Eleanor B. Hallstrom, 65, of Taos, NM, Passed Away 7 March 1995 at Holy Cross Hospital Taos, NM. Survived by daughter Jennifer L. Hallstrom and Brother Bill Brink. Also survived by by friend and care giverMaria Porta. Eleanor was the grand daughter of William T. Hinde, Taos, NM first blacksmith. She was an artist who studied under IIfa McAffe and Burt Phillips. Interment at Sierra Vista Taos, NM Cemetery. 16 March 1995 A-16.

29- Maggie (Mary) Ellis, 80, was born 2 March 1916 in Henryetta, Ok she moved to Lubbock, Texas in 1966 from Albuq, NM. She lived in the Taos Area from 1947 to 1963. She married Emmett Ellis in Okmulgee, Ok on 24 June 1946. He preceded her in death 1 Jan 1985. She is survived by daughters Elissi Rathfelder of Foster City, Ca and Belinda Ellis Jones of Lubbock, Tx; Sons Allen and Steve Ellis both of Lubbock, Tx; Brother Raymond Stevenson of Conroe, Tx; Sisters Francis Wood of Lubbock, Tx, and Mickey Quimby of Kermit, Tx. 30- Odilia Prando, 96, native of Valdez, NM. Passed away 17 Feb 1995 at St. Joseph Hospital Albuq, NM. She is survived by Daughters Edna Riskas of Ca, Armelinda C. 31- Wesley A. Peterson "Pete", 91, Passed away in Santa Fe, NM 7 March 1995. He was preceded in death by his wife Pauline Platt Peterson. He was born in Denver, Co 7 June 1903. He was a graduate of the University of Colorado and had obtained a law degree from Harvard. He was a charter member of the Christ Lutheran Church and a founding member of the Taos Art Association. Survived by sister Grace Dunkin of Loveland, Co; Sons Doug Peterson and wife Patsy of Santa Fe, NM and Wesley A. Peterson Jr. of Las Vegas, NM. ; Daughter Dorothy Randall and husband Charles of Taos, NM. 16 March 1995 A-16.

32- Eduardo Tafoya, 84, of Talpa, NM. Passed away 18 March 1995 in Santa Fe, NM. He was a rancher and long time resident of Talpa, NM. He is survived by sisters Lorencita Mondragon (Phila) of Ca; Brothers Adelmo (Elvira) Tafoya, Antonio (Emma) Tafoya both of Colo Springs, Co and Pete Tafoya of Ranchos de Taos, NM. 33- Eva Rivera Martinez, 86, of Ranchos de Taos, NM. Passed away 19 March 1995 in Albuq, NM. She was born 30 May 1908 in Roy, NM. She operated the Martinez-Rivera General Store on the Ranchos de Taos, NM Plaza with her parents Tomas and Raquel Rivera and later with her husband Reuben A. Martinez. She attended the Harwood Girls School in Albuq, NM and the Girls Business College in Louisville, Kentucky. Preceded in death by her husband Reuben A. Martinez. Survived by her sister Romaine Cooksey. Burial at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. 23 March 1995 A-13.

34- Phyllis Dominguez Wood, 77, died Sunday 19 March 1995 in Santa Fe, NM. She was born in Chamisal, NM 23 Aug 1918. She was an administrative assistant at the State Records and Archives. Survived by daughter Barbara Guttmann MacPherson (William T.) of Albuq, NM; Sisters Anita Chavez of Ranchos de Taos, NM, Carmen Holt of Seattle, Wa; Brothers Dr. Jose A. Dominguez (Anita) of Taos, NM and George Dominguez of Taos, NM. 23 March 1995 A-13.

35- Victor Lucio Tafoya, 59, of Talpa, NM. Passed away 18 March 1995. Survived by sisters Emelina Tafoya of Ranchos de Taos, NM, Nellie (Tomas) Pacheco of Cheyenne, Wyo; Brothers Florentino (Emilia) Tafoya of Albuq, NM; Ismael Tafoya of Ranchos de Taos, NM and Jose Luis Tafoya of Albuq, NM. 36- 5 March 1995 Approximately 2:20 PM a twin engine Cessna 421 airplane crashed 7.2 miles Northwest of the Taos Airport near Tres Piedras, NM. Four men from Oklahoma died in the crash. Killed were the Pilot Benny Brown 53, Red River, NM property owner, his son Kyle Brown, Chris Bennett and Robert Newton. 9 March 1995 A-3.

37- Gilbert Archuleta, 43, passed away 23 March 1995 in Cerro, NM. He was preceded in death by his father Modesto Archuleta in 1991. 38- Geneveva V. Mondragon, 50, of llano Quemado, NM. Passed away at her residence 1 April 1995. She was employed as a book keeper at Smiths. Survived by husband Gilbert A. Mondragon; Sons Agustine J., Eloy M., Julian and Paul J. Mondragon of Llano Quemado, NM; Her Parents Birda and Eloy Vigil; Mother-in-law Solidea Mondragon; Brothers Raul E. 39- Robert Roger Trujillo, Originally of Taos, NM. Passed away 20 March 1995 at his home in Calif. He was a proud Marine. He lived in California making it his home for 36 years. He retired from the Micro Flats Company in 1985. Survived by his mother Josephine Trujillo; Wife Ruby Trujillo; Children Lucia (McMary) Yorochuk of Washington, Step-Children Leana Argento and Vicky Bunnag, both of Calif. Buried at Las Cruces Taos, NM. Cemetery. 6 April 1995 B-6.

40- Teresita Rodriguez, 95, of Chamisal, NM Died (date of death not listed) Memorial service held sunday at the Penasco Presbyterian Church. Interment at the Chamisal, NM. Presbyterian Cemetery. She was the daughter of Jesus Martinez and Macarita Archuleta. Survived by husband Manuel Rodriguez; Sons Jerry (Theresa), Juan (Benina), Manuel Jr.(Olivia); Daughters Librada (Steve) Gallegos, Marcia ( Vergilio) Chacon, Solidea (Gilberto) Magania; Sisters Domitilia Montoya of Gallup. Glover died 1 Nov 1994 from injuries she suffered in an accidental fire in her home. Ila McAfee was born 21 Oct 1897 in Saguache County Co. She and Elmer Page Turner married in Co 17 Oct 1926. Bill was a long time grocery salesman, later working for Taos Leathercrafts for a number of years. 64- Dewey Warren Haddock, age 97, died in Taos, NM. Monday 15 May 1995. His death follows by 6 weeks the loss of his beloved bride of 63 years, Wilma Clayton Haddock. He is preceded in death by his son John P. Haddock of Dallas, Tx. The fourth of eight children, Mr Haddock was born in the Indian Territory near Collinsville, Ok. He was a member of the Cherokee Nation. He married Jewell Miller in 1921. They had one son, John Dewey (1922-91). Later divorced. Mr. Haddock continued traveling and working construction throughout the Southern states. In 1931 he married Wilma Louise Clayton in Portales, NM. They made their home in the small towns of Arrey, Garfield and Hatch, NM.They worked principally as general store owners, cotton and chili farmers. In 1989 the Haddocks moved to Taos, NM Plaza de Retiro. Survived by sister Lillian Haddock Johnson of Dallas, Tx; Children Marshall Haddock of Columbus, Ohio, Wanda Burkett of Taos Ski Valley, NM, Carolyn Haddock of Taos, NM. He will be buried next to his loving wife at the Garden of Memories in Hatch, NM. 25 May 1995 B-6.

69- Irene Seward Cottam of Taos, NM died at her home 21 May 1995 at 1240 AM. Preceded in death by her parents Elizabeth (Lewis) Seward and Edwin B. Seward and brothjer Lewis B. Seward. Irene was born 7 July 1901 in Santa Fe, NM and raised in Tres Piedres, NM, where her father was an attorney-Store Keeper and Rancher. She attended Albuq High School then she taught school in Tres Piedres. In 1920 she married Claud S. Mann in Santa Fe, NM. After he graduated from George Town Law School they lived in Santa Fe, NM. Where he was Assistant U.S. Attorney. She was active in the Republican party and was the only woman to serve n the 23rd New Mexico Legislature (1957-1959). After 56 years Claud Mann preceded her in death in 1976. In 1981 ahe moved to Taos, NM and married Louis (Louie) F. Cottam. She was 80 and he was 89. Louis died at age 101 in 1993, after 12 years of marriage. Irene is survived by sons Claud S. Mann Jr. of Valatie, Ny and Taos, NM, Edward S. Mann of Taos; Step-children Barbara C. Chavez and husband Lambert, Brook Cottam and wife Phoebe all of Taos, NM; Sister-in-law Louise (Don) Gill of Albuq, NM and Dorothy (Ray) Schott of Ca. He was co-founder of the Rio Grande Alcoholism Treatment Center in Embudo, NM and helped establish the Taos Valley Acequia Association.
