A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007 at 2:30 pm  at the Ballard Chapel for Evelyn Jewel Bragg Garvey, 76, of Roswell, who passed away October 23, 2007 at her home.  Rev. Sam Valdez and grandson Chad Kitchens will officiate and will be assisted by step-brother Jack Ferguson.  Evelyn will lie in state at the Ballard Funeral Home on Friday noon to 7:00 pm and on Saturday 8 am to 12 pm.  She is being cremated according to her wishes.

Evelyn was born on Aug. 23, 1931 to Everett and Jewell Bullard Bragg in Nogal, New Mexico.  Her parents have preceded her in death.

Evelyn was married to Robert J. Garvey.  Her husband has preceded her in death as well as one son, Robert J. Garvey, III, one brother, Johnny Bragg, a grandson, Michael F. Garvey, Jr. and a granddaughter, Alicia Hale.

Evelyn is survived by her son, Michael Garvey and wife Dannine of Odessa, Texas; her daughters, Nancy Ritchey and husband Ralph of Vernon, Texas; Annie Kitchens and husband Lucius of El Paso, Texas; Catherine Jimenez and husband Leroy of Roswell; Betty Lawrence and husband Tom of El Paso, Texas; and a special daughter, Terri Costello and husband Roger of Roswell; her brothers:  Earl Bragg of Roswell and step-brother Jack Ferguson of Dexter; her sisters:  Mary Livesay of Odessa, Texas; stepsisters:  Kay White of Tishamingo, Okla, and Shirley Cain of Roswell and Sara Russell of Tishamingo, Okla; her 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Evelyn was a registered nurse serving at Villa Solano, Fort Stanton State Hospital, and Tobosa.  She was in Who's Who in American Nursing in 1990-1991, 1993-1994, 1995-1995, Who's Who in Human Service Professionals in 1992-1993.  After her children were grown she served as a foster parent for three years.  She was also a patient advocate for several individuals.  She was a member of Washington Avenue Fellowship for over 50 years, where she served as A Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, Girls Auxiliary Director and Leader and sung in the church choir.  She was also an avid supporter and provided assistance at Special Olympics events.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ballard Funeral Home and Crematory.
