Cardenas is twelve miles northwest of Yeso on the AT&SF RR. This small settlement was created by the railroad as a water station for the coal fired steam locomotives.
 Six railroad men died while serving this way station over a period of several years. The station was discontinued ca. 1950.
There being no other town nearby, the deceased were buried on the RR property adjacent to the rail line on the south side of the track.
