Mrs. Beaty Killed In Car Crash
Part of top Pierced Her Head: Death Instantaneous
Mrs. Oren Beaty was instantly killed at 1:30 o'clock this morning when the car she was driving crashed into a truck near Vado. The top of the car was wedged back against the back of the driver's seat and it was said that a part pierced Mrs. Beaty's skull. Her companion, Chris Snyder, of the Western Newspaper Union Syndicate of Denver, received cuts and bruises and fractured ribs. The Graham ambulance brought Mrs. Beaty's body to Las Cruces, and Mr. Snyder was taken to the Southwestern General Hospital in El Paso.
According to reports the car rolled 75 feet after the impact with the truck and Mrs. Beaty's bady was so tightly wedged in the car that the top of the car had to be cut before it could be removed. She was identified by her driver's license in her purse, after the body was brought to Las Cruces.
Mrs. Beaty was a prominent society woman and had taken an active part in polities during Ex-Governor Seligman's administration, serving on the State Welfare Board. Her husband is district manager of the Farm Security administration with headquarters here. The family moved here about two years ago from Lovington. She was a member of the Methodist church of the Women's Improvement Association, Delphian Society and Country Club, and took an active part in all civic affairs. Surviving members of the family are her husband, Oren Beaty, two sons, Oren, Jr., and a daughter, Mary Margaret.
Funeral Services will be held tomorrow afternoon at three o'clock at St. Paul's Methodist church with Rev. C. K. Campbell conducting the services, and burial will be made in the Masonic cemetery. The Graham Mortuary are in charge of the arrangements.

Kit Carson's Granddaughter Weds Cruces Man
Mrs. Anita Atkins, granddaughter of Kit Carson, famous Indian fighter, became the bride of Dr. Howard Gleasner of Las Cruces on Oct. 7th in Albuquerque. They returned to Las Cruces yesterday to make their home here. Dr. Gleasner came here from California recently to practice his profession.

John Tulk Beaten And Robbed
John Tulk of Mesquite, was beating over the head by a man he had befriended a short time before and knocked unconscious, his car wrecked and he was robbed of $4.00 about 8 o'clock last night just south of Hatch. His assailant left him in the wreckage and it was some time afterwards that he became conscious and hailed a passing car the brought him into town.
According to the story told the Sheriff Viramontes, Mr. Tulk yesterday stopped in Hatch enroute to Hillsboro and there was accosted by a stranger who wanted to go to Hillsboro, and Mr. Tulk took him along. After transacting his business in Hillsboro and ready to start home the man appeared and returned to Hatch with Mr. Tulk. Mr. Tulk stopped in Hatch a short time, and then started home and said he did not see the man when he started, but a short ways out of Hatch the man standing on the running board hit him over the head with a club or some blunt instrument and temporality knocked him out. In losing consciousness he swerved his car into the ditch, wrecking the car. When consciousness returned he found himself in the wreck and $4.00 missing. He hailed a passing car and returned to Las Cruces, and this morning notified the sheriff's office. He did not learn the man's name, but says he could identify him it he s aw him.

Mrs. Garcia Buried Today at Dona Ana
Funeral services will be held at three o'clock this afternoon at the Dona Ana Methodist church for Mrs. Delores Garcia, aged 6? who died yesterday morning at the family home in Dona Ana.
She is survived by her husband, Antonio Garcia and six children, Mrs. Sevelonia Provencio of Las Angeles, Mrs. Virginia Smith and Mrs. Aurora Kairzle, Felix Garcia all of Fresno, Calif., and Thomas Garcia and Roque Garcia, all of Dona Ana. There are 20 grandchildren. The Nelson Mortuary is in charge of the services

Mrs. Apodaca's Funeral Rites This Morning
funeral services were held this morning at Tortugas for Mrs. Sara Apodaca, aged 44 who died yesterday following a short illness. Services were held in the Tortugas Catholic Church. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Josefina Apodaca of Mesilla Park, her daughter, Mrs. Elisa Chavarria of Albuquerque, two sons, Jesus and Jose Apodaca of Mesilla Park and two grandchildren. The Nelson Mortuary is in charge of the services.

John E. Priest Died Early This Morning
Funeral Services Tomorrow at Three O'clock at Graham's
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at three o'clock. Owing to the celebration of the Forty Hour service at St. Genevieve's church, the church will not be available for the service and the services will he held at Graham's tonight at 8 o'clock. Burial will be made in the Catholic section of the Masonic cemetery with the John Bonney Camp of Spanish War Veterans in charge at the graveside service.
Mr. Priest is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lily Priest, four daughters, Miss Cornelia, Mrs. Dolores Magedon of El Paso, Mrs. Amelia McLaughlin of Phoenix, and Mrs. Sam McVeagh of San Antonio, one son, John, Jr., and one sister, Mrs. L. Sameniego of Rincon.
Mr. Priest lived in this section for the past 36 years. He served in the 34th Regiment during the Spanish-American War and was discharged in 1889. He was adjutant in the John Bonney Camp No. 10, of Spanish-American War Veterans at the time of his death. After his discharge from the was he acted as interpreter for Major Shunk, commander in this district for a number of years.

Mrs. Tomasa Nieto Died This Morning
Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock at St. Joseph's cemetery for Mrs. Tomasa Nieto, who died last night at her home on East Organ Street. The Graham Mortuary will be in charge of the services. She is survived by her husband, Parafeto Nieto and one son, Daniel. She has been a resident here for the past 18 years.

David Barrington Killed Instantly at Chamberino Gin
Caught in Pulley While Changing Belt
David Barrington, aged 45 was killed instantly at 12:15 o'clock last night at the Chamberino Co-operative gin at Chamberino, when he was caught in a pulley. His head was crushed. According to information received at the gin this morning, the men were changing a belt on another pulley, he was pulling on the belt and in some manner as caught and carried against the machinery. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Joseph F. Bennett Died This Morning At La Union Home
Joseph F. Bennett 2nd, aged 67, died this morning about 9:30 at his home at La Union of bronchial pneumonia. Mr. Bennett has been in ill-health for several years, but had been ill with pneumonia but ten days.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Casad Bennett, two daughters, Mrs. A. E. Siegal of Menlo Park, Calif., and Mrs. Miles J. Warren of Toledo, Ohio; three sons, Donald and Joe the 3rd, of La Union and Delmar of El Paso.
There are also three brothers, H. F. Bennett of El Paso, C. O. Bennett of Las Cruces and Henry Bennett of Havana, Cuba; a sister, Mrs. A. F. Main of Mexico, D. F. and nine grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are pending, but the funeral will probably he held Thursday. The Graham Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Bennett was born at Old Mesilla, and his lived in Dona Ana County continuously except for five years in Mexico, and 10 years in El Paso. For the past 26 years he has operated a farm at La Union. He is a member of the Masonic lodge at Anthony.

Funeral of Walter Kuykendall This Afternoon
Funeral services for Walter Kuykendall, aged 14, son of Mrs. Peter Kuykendall, who died Saturday morning of rheumatic fever, will be held this afternoon at 2:30 at the Las Cruces Mortuary. Rev. Harold Dye will conduct the service.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Peter Kuykendall, one brother, Peter, and one sister, Ermadell. He was a freshman in the Las Cruces Union high school, and a member of the Future Farmers. The Vocational agriculture class will attend the services in a body and act as honorary pall-bearers. Active pall-bearers will be Messrs, Smallwood, Harrelson, Gluck, Prit, Pritchett, Mc Bride, Ulmer.

Funeral For Mrs. McElroy Tomorrow Morning
Las Cruces friends were notified yesterday of the death of Mrs. Henrietta McElroy, widow of the late Pat McElroy, who died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Douglas Tucker in Marana, Ariz., where she has made her home.
Funeral services will be held here at St. Genevieve's church at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning and burial will be made in the Catholic section of the Masonic cemetery by the side of her husband who died a few years age.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. George Houghton of El Paso, Mrs. Jerome Brooks of Phoenix, Mrs. Marie Choat of McCamey, Mrs. Tucker, five sons, Robert, Tom, Charles of Phoenix, William of Yuma and Jim of Watsonville, Calif. The McElroy family lived in Las Cruces about 25 years and had a wide circle of friends here.

Lupe Nevarez Died Sunday
Lupe Nevarez, aged 9, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Nevarez of La Mesa, died last evening at 6 o'clock in an El Paso Hospital. She is survived by her parents, six brothers and one sister, and a half brother, Max Sanchez of Las Cruces. Funeral arrangements are pending waiting for word from her father, who is working in Delavin, Calif. The Nelson Mortuary is in charge of the services.

Mrs. S. E. Lewis Died This Morning
Mrs. S. E. Lewis, aged 80 died this morning at her home on N. Alameda Avenue of pneumonia and complications. Funeral services will be held at the home tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock.
Mrs. Lewis was born in England but has been a resident of Las Cruces and El Paso for the past 40 years, coming here from Virginia and was a writer of note in her early days. She is survived by her husband and relatives in England.

Berino Child Thrown From Horse Died of Injuries
Jack Story, seven, foster son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Webb of Berino, N.M. died in an El Paso hospital at 7 p.m. Thursday of injuries received when he was thrown and dragged by a horse. Besides Mr. and Mrs. Webb, two foster brothers, James and Pool Webb, survive.

Gabriel Apodaca Died of Heart Attack Last Night
Gabriel Apodaca, a resident of Las Cruces for the past 35 years, died last night at his home at 345 South San Pedro Street, of a heart attack.
He is survived by his wife, Catarina, three sons, Ramon Francisco and Jose, and five daughters, Mrs. Maria A. de Gonzales, Mrs. Margaret A de Francisco, Mrs. Rosaura Garcia, Mrs. Catarina Diaz and Miss Consuela Apodaca. Funeral arrangements are pending the arrival of one of the daughters who lives in Calif. The Nelson mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Margarito Benavides of La Mesa Died today
Margarito Benavides a prominent farmer to the Las Mesa district died early this morning. Funeral services will be held in the La Mesa Catholic church at nine o'clock tomorrow morning, an interment will be made in the La Mesa cemetery.
Mr. Benavides, has lived in the La Mesa district all his life. He is survived by his wife and two sons, and two daughters. The Nelson Mortuary will be in charge of the funeral which will take place at St. Genevieve's Church at 9 o'clock Friday morning.

Mesilla Man Fined For Drunken Driving
Andreas Granillo of Old Mesilla was fined $50.00 and costs by City Judge Albino A. Apodaca yesterday and was remanded to jail. Granillo was charged with driving an automobile while intoxicated, and was found to have been intoxicated at the time by County Physician Miller.

Henry Stoes in Oldest Masonic Officer in State
Henry Stoes entered his fortieth year as treasurer of Aztec Lodge No. 3, A. F. & A. M. last night, when the newly elected officers were installed. He is now the oldest officer in point of service in Masonry in New Mexico. E. L. Holt entered his eleventh year as secretary of the lodge. Impressive installation services were conducted by Harold Edwards as installation officer, and B. E. Harvey, as marshal.
Officers installed were: Dr. G. N. Stroman, senior warden; Henry Stoes, treasurer; Ed Holt, secretary; John Longbottom, senior deacon; E. L. Ritchie, junior deacon; A. L. Williams, senior steward; Joe Rosefeld, Tyler; Rev. Muirden, chaplain; Uil Lane, marshal. Three of the officers could not be present and will be installed later. They were Master-elect Richard McDonald, who is in William Beaumont Hospital, El Paso; Claude Shindler, junior warden and John Gaines, junior steward.

Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Bronson of Fabens, spent Christmas here with Mr. Bronson's mother, Mrs. D. W. Bronson at 425 North Alameda Avenue. Ried Martin, son of Coleman Martin, who has been living in Los Angeles, arrived here for Christmas and will spend the balance of the winter here with his father.
Richard Walker of Urbana, Ill., a student at Berkley, Calif., is spending the holidays here with his cousin, Miss Helen Rooker. Miss Rooker and guest are spending a few days with friends at Kingston, this week. Mrs. and Mrs. Carl Reinecke of Amarillo, were guests of Mrs. Reineckes's mother and grandmother, Mrs. Franke Talbot and Mrs. Georgetta Gatton, for Christmas.
Mrs. Hanna Burke, a resident of Las Cruces for many years, who now lives in El Paso, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Baytus Cade, and family and son, Frances Burke, and family. Mrs. and Mrs. Auello Montoya expect to have Mrs. and Mrs. Aurello Montoya, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Mora and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Guttierez, all of Albuquerque, for their New Year's guests. The party will have New Year's dinner in Juarez, Mex. Shorty Hornbuckle will serve luncheon for the members of the Women's Wednesday Golf Club at 12:30 o'clock tomorrow. The annual election of officers will be held during the business session after luncheon, and golf games will follow the business session.
