The Rev. Manuel DUARTE, died Wed. He was a long time priest at the Dona Ana
Catholic Church. Ordained May 23, 1959. He was chaplain at Hotel Dieu Hospital
in El Paso. Feb. 1971 he become pastor of Our Lady of Purification Catholic
Church in Dona Ana until he retired. Rosary at St. Generieve’s Catholic Church.
Burial at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in El Paso. survived by one sister, Gabriela
DUARTE; and one brother, Don Miguel DUARTE, both of Costa Rico. Getz Funeral

Ellis L. FINCH, 69, died Sat. Getz Funeral Home. Services at Seventh-day
Adventist Church near Three Crossed. Other services at later date at Bessemer,
Ala. Survived by his wife, Lenora; one son, Ellis FINCH of Atlanta, GA, and two

Charlie R. MILLER, 76, died Dec. 31. Born May 1, 1905 in Kingman, AZ, married
March 5, 1932 in Clovis to Velva E. Robertson. Worked as a machinist for the US
Navy at White Sands Missile Range for 20 years, retiring in 1970. Member of
Order of the Elks Lodge 1119 in Las Cruces. Active in the Three Crosses Travel

George WEINRICK, 72, died in Albuquerque. He was active in the Boy Scouts of
America, a member of the Moose Lodge, and served as secretary-treasurer of the
Elks Lodge 1119 in the 1970’s. He started a fire extinguisher firm, retiring in
1975 after selling the business. In 1977 he started the Consolidated Ambulance
Service. Graham’s Chapel. Interment at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Survived by
his wife, Dorothy; six sons, Donald, Ronald, and David of Las Cruces, Bobby and
Jimmy of Belen and Marvin of Phoenix, AZ, a daughter, Donna Jean MILLER of
Altuna, PA and eight grandchildren.

Rudolf GONZALES, 52, 1115 Jett Ave. died Fri. Retired from Law Enforcement. He
started his police career with the city of Las Cruces and joined the state
police in 1955. He was appointed sheriff of Dona Ana County in 1965 and served
in that capacity until 1970. He also served as magistrate judge and as chief of
police in Lordsburg. Member of Knights of Columbus. Received an associate degree
in police science from NMSU. Graham’s Mortuary. burial at Hillcrest Memorial
Gardens. Survived by his wife, Ramona; one daughter, Jessica Lynne GONZLAES of
Tokette Falls, OR.; one son, Randolf Dwayne GONZALES of Las Cruces, two sisters,
Emma RODRIGUEZ of Las Cruces and Yolnda CAVAVAJAL of Bakersfield, Ca; one

John Lowell McCOLLAUM, 59, died Tue. He lived at Rt. 2, Box 307, east of Deming.
Born Nov. 6, 1922 in Carlsbad, reared in the Guadalupe Mt. and graduated from
Carlsbad High School in 1941. He was in the Marine Corps and a veteran of WW2,
having made four "D" Days in the Pacific Theater; Mariana Island, Saipan,
Tinian, and Iwo Jima. Received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education
at Eastern NMU at Portales. He served as industrial arts teacher and principal
at Carrizozo, and later as principal at Estancia High School and Jemez Valley
High School at Jemez Pueblo. 1979 he moved to Deming where he was an auto
mechanics instructor at Deming High School and a member of NM Education
Association, National Education Association and lifetime member of PTA. Also 25
year amateur radio operator. Wheeler Mortuary Chapel. Interment at Mt. View
Cemetery. Survivors, wife, Joyce; three sons, Dean of Oregon City, OR; John of
Santa Rosa and Brian of Deming; daughter, Eva McCOLLAUM of Socorro; his mother,
Opal G. McCOLLAUM of Carlsbad; two brothers, Ben and Kenneth, both of Carlsbad;

in Las Cruces on April 21, 1890 and worked for furniture stores here and El
Paso. he owned and operated a furniture store in Clifton, AZ, until retirement
in 1962, when he moved to CA. Survived by one son, Loui; two brothers, Manuel J.
CHAVEZ and A. V. "Doc" CHAVEZ of Las Cruces, one sister, Nellie LOYA of El Paso.

Charles B. LEMON, 65, of 616 N. Dyne, died Sun. Funeral arrangements are pending
with Graham’s Mortuary. Born May 2, 1916 in Madrid, NM, son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Charles H. LEMON. Graduate of Paseo High School in Kansas City, MO and
attended the U of NM and Highlands University, with bachelor’s and master’s
degrees from the latter. 1942, joined the USAF and served as a pilot with Troupe
Carrier Command, spending 19 months in the South Pacific. Discharged in 1945.
Basketball coach at Espanola and leaving the coaching field became assistant
superintendent of the Espanola Municipal School System. 1956 moved to Santa Fe,
employed with Traffic Safety Commission for two years, joined the state dept. of
Ed. School Bus Transportation Div. retiring in 1975 after 8 years. Presented the
Distinguished Service to Safety Award. Survived by his wife, Mary; daughter,
Mrs. Robert (Mona) MORALES of Las Cruces; two grandsons. Preceded in death by a
brother, Chad E. of Albuquerque.
