GREENWAY
John A. GREENWAY, 72, of Las Cruces, passed away on Wed. May 3. 1995 at Memorial
Medical Center. Mr. GREEWAY was born on August 20, 1922 in St. Louis, MO and was
retired (1965) from the USAF where he served as a TSGT during WW II and the
Korean Conflict. He married Beverly KENNARD on Jan. 10, 1951 in Tucson, AZ. Mr.
GREEWAY is survived by his wife, Beverly of the home; his children, John J.
GREENWAY of Corona, CA., and Judy SENDELBACH of Palm Dale, CA., four
grandchildren; Stephen WISNER, Mindy ECCELSTON, Monica GREENWAY, James
SENDELBACH; his sister, Ruth FASSELL of Las Cruces, four nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda WISNER, 1983 and a sister,
Thelma SMITH in 1987. Graham Mortuary Chapel. Interment at Masonic Cemetery.

HUNT
Dr. William HUNT, 73, of Las Cruces, died at home on May 3, 1995. Born in
Fairmont, MN., June 16, 1921, to Dr. Roscoe and Elva HUNT, he graduated from
Dartmouth College and the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1945. After
serving in the US Navy from 1945 to 1948, he completed a residency in OBGYN at
the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, NY., in 1954. He practiced medicine in Fergus
Falls, MN from 1954 to 1965 and on staff at the Geisinger Medical Center in
Danville, PA., for 15 years. In 1980, he moved to Las Cruces and worked for NMSU
Health Center until his retirement in 1986. Survived by his wife of 50 years,
Margaret HUNT; six daughters, Catherine HODGSON of Chicago, ILL, Deborah STEPHAN
of Las Cruces, Nancy JACOBUS of South Burlington, VT., Jane Margaret HUNT of
Ithaca, NY., Joanne HUNT of Milton, VT., seven granddaughters and one grandson.
He is also survived by a sister, Alice ROSSMAN of Grand Rapids, MN and Green
Valley, AZ and a brother Dr. Robert HUNT.

SPIKER
Harold L. SPIKER, 83, died May 4, 1995 at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces.
He was born on Jan. 13, 1912 in Chariton, Iowa. Harold was a retired Driller and
a WW2 veteran. Survived by his wife, Margot SPIKER of Las Cruces; son, Bob
DANIELS and wife Marie of Las Cruces, daughters, Renee JACAQUEZ and husband
Ruben, Penny RIVERA of Las Cruces, brother Marion SPIKER of Abbyville, LA.,
grandchildren, Robbie DANIELS, Danny MUNOZ, Edmond JACQUEZ, Jacquie RIVERA and
Stacy JACQUEZ; also great grandchildren, Robbie DANIELS Jr., Aubrey Jenet
JACQUEZ. Getz Funeral Home. Interment at a later date.

Milton J. BOOTH, 65 of T or C died Wed. at Sierra Vista Hospital. He was a
retired electrical quality control manager. French Mortuary Chapel. Cremation
has taken place. Survived by his wife, Galina BOOTH of T or C; stepsons Oleg
KONSTANTINOW and Peter KONSTANTINOW, both of Chicago; brother, William BOOTH of
Chicago; sister, Lil KARERA of IN., and mother-in-law Maria NANIZ of T or C.

Walter KARATYZ, 74 OF Elephant Butte died Tuesday at Sierra Vista Hospital. He
was a boiler tender working in civil service. There will be no local services.
Burial services at the Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.

LEE
Miiki R. LEE, 20 of Santa Rita died Monday in Central. Member of the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Silver City. Interment at San Lorenzo
Cemetery. survived by her father, Jim LEE of Santa Rita; mother, Barbara HARRIS,
of Canada; stepmother Selah GONZALES of Santa Rita; brother, Dale, LEE, of the
US Navy in Mississippi; sisters, Patti LEE of Ft. Bragg, CA., Jerri OVERStrEET
of Free, TX., special brothers and sisters Maria PALOMAREZ, Joe Ben PALOMAREZ,
Charles STEVENS, Nathan STEVENS, Marin FACIO the 3rd, all of San Lorenzo, and

NICHOLS
June Thelma NICHOLS, 70 of Deming died Monday at Mimbres Memorial Hospital. She
was a bookkeeper at Holdridge Development. She was also a member of the Order of
the Eastern Star, The beauceant and the White Shrine. Survived by her husband,
Bill T. NICHOLS ; sons, William Roy CURTIS and Charles Lane CURTIS both of
Eldorado Hills, CA., and John Lee CURTIS and Larry CURTIS, both of Frazier Park,
CA., daughters, Judi S. PETERSEN of Winton, CA., Janie DEREVERE of Maricopa,
CA., stepchildren, Charles NICHOLS of Deming and Judith MAHAFEY and Jean
BALDRIDEGE, both of Clovis, CA., sister, Doris ELSWORTH of Peoria, AZ., and many
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Addie Marie Halderman entered eternal life May 4, 1995. She was Born July 31,
1907, in Batavia, Ohio. She was a homemaker and had been in the Las Cruces area
since 1980.
Survirors include her husband, Alva Halder4man; one sister, Dora Butler of
Moriarty; a son, Robert C. Newberry of Santa Fe; two daughters, Georgia Jones
and her husband, D. C. of Peralta; Alma Lee Harris and her husband, Raymond of
Fallbrook, CA; five grandchildren; 13 g-grandchildren; two gg-grandchildren;
three nephews and four nieces.
Funeral services at Graham Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Lowell Swisher of Morning
Star United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Masonic
Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be Ronnie Jones, Dale Jones, Jeff
Jones, Michael Jones, Dwight Clark and Billy Harris Service arrangements are
with Graham Mortuary.

Sofia Cano CARDON, 90 died Thur. Dec. 7, 1995. Born in Mesilla on Oct. 5, 1905.
Worked in family owned and operated businesses, Ny-Way grocery Store, Montezuma
Dance Hall, Guadalajara Bar and most recently the Montezuma Liquor Store. Member
of Our Lady of Health Catholic Church. Survivors include two son, Fred and wife
Angie and PRIMITIVO Jr, and his former wife Viola, all of Las Cruces, three
daughters; Mary Lou VILLARREAL, Bertha PENA both of Las Cruces, Maggie JIMENEZ
and husband Luis of La Mesa, one brother, Isidro CANO of Whittier Ca, two
sisters, Nellie VELASQUEZ and Concha JIMENEZ both of Riverside, Ca. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Primitivo CARDON, Sr, one son Candelario
CARDON, one grandson, Joe Cardon and two sisters, Belen PEREZ and Emma SOLRIO.
Interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery next to her husband. Baca's Funeral Chapels.

Thelma I. BEUSHAUSEN, 92 died Fri. Dec. 8, 1995. Born Oct. 18, 1903 in Ft.
Worth, TX. Survived by her daughter, Betty LUCKY and husband, Dr. Geo. LUCKY of

WILEY
Loyad L. WILEY, 93, died Sat Dec. 9, 1995 at his home in Garfield. He was a
street car conductor in 1924 in El Paso, TX, he also workded for Phelps Dodge in
El Paso, worked for New Mexico State Parks and Recreation at Caballo Lake where
he retired in 1972, he was also a farmer in Garfield area. Survived by his wife,
Lola; two daughters, Anna ANDERSON and husband Olan of Grafield, Jean DICKSON
and husband F. J. of Garfield; one sister, Hattie Mae BRYANT of Pleasanton, TX,
5 grandchildren and 12 g-grandchildren, 5 gg-grandchildren. Graveside services
at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Hatch, NM. Getz Funeral Home.

GROVES
L. C. GROVES, 76 of Mesilla died Tue. Dec. 5, 1995 at Presbyterian Hospital in
Albuquerque. Born Jan. 3, 1919 in Motley, TX to Noble and Maggie Lipham GROVES.
Served as a bombardier during WW2 and spent 38 years as a construction lineman
for MT. Bell Telephone Co., working his way up to supervisor of repairs and
installation in Silver City, Las Cruces and Albuquerque. Member of the Telephone
Pioneers. And a well know photograper in the Mesilla Valley. Survivors include
wife, Floydene STURMAN GROVES; two sons, Jim and wife, Jeanie, Mike and wife
Kathy all of Las Cruces; 4 grandchildren, Paula GROVES of Albuquerque, Greg and
Patrick and Don GROVES all of Las Cruces. Preceded in death by three brothers,
Noble, Claude, and Delbert GROVES and his first wife, Elaine RENN GROVES.
Cremation will take place. Baca’s Funeral Chapel.

Aug. 26, 1934. Homemaker and resident for the past six years. Survivors include

Luis VILLEGA, wife, Amada, Guillermo VILLEGAS wife Rosvel, Gerardo WILLEGAS,

Santiago of Las Cruces; three brothers, Sebastian, Telesforo, and Vicente FLORES
all of Puebla, Puebla, MEX; two sisters, Luisa, and Antonia FLORES o Puebla.

Garfield, NM, was a homemaker. She was an area resident the past 13 years and

D., three sons, Robert and Richard ROMERO both of San Diego, Ca, Roland AGUAYO
of Las Cruces, one daughtere, Claudia ROSALES of Alhambra, Ca; two sisters
Manuela TORRES of Garfield and Ofelia ALAMO of San Diego, Ca, 13 grandchildren,

Gustavo D. DOMINGUEZ, Jr., 42, of Mesquite died Fri. as a result of a motorcycle
accident. Baca’s Funeral Chapels. Born Feb. 15, 1953 to Gustavo P. and Benita
DURAN DOMINGUEZ. He was self-employed automotive battery technician and member
of the Catholic Church. Survivors include wife, Mary Lou GUERRA DOMINGUEZ, one
son, Sonny, daughter, Renee; parents, one sister, Angie LOPEZ and one grandson,
Sonny CRUZ all of Mesqute. Preceded in death by his brother, Ediberto DOMINGUEZ

Eugene F. MOORE, 67 of Lordsburg died Wed. at Sierra Medical Center in El Paso,
TX. Burial at MT. View Cemetery. Baca’s Funeral Chapel. Served as city police
officer in Lordsburg and Hidalgo Co. as the chief of police and Hidalgo Co.
Sheriff. Member of Assembly of God Church, Lordsburg Elks Lodge and Fraternal
Order of Police. Survivors include his wife, Faye, son Pete of De Soto, TX;
daughters, Cynthia ALLEN of Lordsburg and Donna THOMPSON of Grants, mother,
Myrtle G. MOORE of Lordsburg, 12 grandchildren and 11 g-grandchildren.

Frank Allison PENA, 56, died Thur. Baca’s Funeral Chapel, Deming. He was the
park manager for NM State Parks and Recreation and retired in 1992. Certified
law enforcement officer and member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Survivors
include wife, Concha P; sons, Frank PENA, Jr., Richard and Michael all of
Deming; daughters, Margaret P. PRINCE of Clovis, Susan P. DUAARTE, Lucinda P.

Billie Jean SMALLWOOD, 69, died Tue, Dec. 12, 1995 at Pleasant Valley Hospital
in Camarillo, Ca. She was born July 16, 1926 in TX and came to the Las Cruces
area 42 years ago. She was the former owner of the Cinderella Beauty Shop, which
she managed for 30 years. Survived by her so, Bill WALDON of Thousand Oaks, Ca;
two grandchildren, Beth and Jesse; sisters, Ethel BEHELER of Leveland, TX,
Elaine ARMStrONG, of Snyder, TX, and Melva Lee STOVALL of Abilene, TX. Graham’s

1919 in Sherlock, KS to Dave and Lizzie HARMS THIESSEN. He was stock manager
prio to his retirement and cam to Las Cruces 8 years ago. Member of St. Paul’s
United Methodist Church. Survived by his stepson and his wife, Ron and Donna
HADLEY of Albuquerque, NM, daughter, Juday SMITH of OK, sister, Willow STEGEMAN
of Ca, brother, Del THIESSEN of Austin, TX. 9 grandchildren, 5 g-grandchildren.

Edward YBRRA OCHOA, 53, of Las Cruces, died Sun. Dec. 19, 1995 in Redding, Ca.
Born Dec. 16, 1941 in Las Cruces and was a retired Glazier. survived by three
sons; Edward Ochoa, Jr. of Dayton, Ohio and Jose and Rudy of Yuma, AZ, two
daughters, Loreen ARMENTA of Las Cruces and Rosie OCHOA of Yuma, AZ,
grandfather, Jacinto YBARRA of Ft. Bayard and 8 brothers and 7 sisters. Preceded
in death by his mother, Josephine YBRRA OCHOA, son Gregory Edward OCHOA, and
