JAUREQUI: Mrs. Gertude J. Jaurequi, 83 died at her home in Hurley, Saturday. She had lived in Grant County for 37 years. Rosary services were held Monday evening at the Hurley Catholic Church, and requiem high mass was said at 8 a.m. Tues day by the Rev. Fr. Ramon Estivill. Burial was in the Hurley cemtery. Surving are two sons, Rafel and Vidal and a daughter, Mrs. Salomona Marin, all of Hurley and by 24 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. Funeralservice and burial were the direction of the Cox mortuary.

JAUREQUI: Mrs. Cresencia R. Jaurequi, 84, died December 17 at her residence in Bayard. She was a native of Mexico and had lived in Bayard for 40 years. She was a member of the Sacred Heart League and the League of St. Joseph. Survivors include a son, Santiago of Bayard; two daughters, Mrs. Dolores Godoy and Miss Magdalena Rodriguez, both of Bayard; one sister, Mrs. Maria Sandoval of Campbell, Calif.; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and onegreat-great-grandchild. Rosary services were held in the Curtis Mortuary Chapel Friday at 7 p.m. Mass was said in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church of Bayard at 9 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Fr. Frank Sierra officiating. Burial followed in the Hanover Cemetery. Pallbearers were the following granddaughters: Rosa Ortiz, Mary Medina, Isabel Rodriguez, Jovita Gonzales, Elisa Jauriqui, Irene Godoy and Freda Godoy.

JAUREQUI: Eloy P. Jaurequi, 59, a resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday in Bernalillo Medical Center. Mr. Jauriqui was a communicant of the Catholic Church. He was born Dec. 1, 1928 in Santa Rita and had resided in Albuquerque for the last 30 years. Mr. Jaurequi is survived by his mother, Ramona P. Jaurequi of Bayard; one sister, Angela J. Chavira of Bayard; three brothers, Conrad P. Jauriqui of San Jose, Calif., Senaido P. Jauriqui of Albuquerque and Esequiel P. Jauriqui of Vancouver, Wash.; and many nephews and nieces. Rosary recitation will be held tonight at 7 inOur Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m., also in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. The Rev. Richard Hinojal will officiate at both services. Interment will follow in the Hanover Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Arturo Jauriqui, Senaido Jauriqui Jr., George Cook, Cecilio M. Jauriqui, Richard Medina andJimmy Provencio. Arrangements are by the Wheeler Funeral Home.

JAUREQUI: Estaban Andres Jaurequi, infant son of Magdalena R. Jaurequi of Bayard, died Friday evening in the Gila Regional Medical Center. He is survived by his mother; by his grandparents, Adrian and Elisa Jaurequi of Bayard; by his uncle, Adrian JaurequiJr, and his aunt, Delfina R. Jauriqui, both of Bayard; by his paternal great-grandparents, Santiago and Magdalena Jauriqui of Bayard; by his maternal great-grandmother, Herminia M. Rodriguez of Hurley; and by several great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins. Graveside services were held today at 4 p.m. in the Hurley cemetery with the Rev. Bill Mayer of the St. Francis Newman Center officiating. Arrangements were by the Wheeler Funeral Home.

JAUREQUI: Ramona P. Jauriqui, 90, a resident of Bayard, passed away Saturday in Gila Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Jauriqui was a member of the Sacred Heart Society, the Guadalupanas, and Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. She is survived by three sons, Conrad Jaurequi and his wife, Erma of San Jose, Calif., Esequiel Jaurequi of Vancouver, Wash., and Senaido Jauriqui and his wife, Aurora of Albuquerque; one daughter, Angela Chavira of Bayard; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. Visitation was this afternoon from 2-4. A rosary will be recited this evening at 7 in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard. Mass of the resurrection will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the church with the Rev. Ricardo Hinojal as celebrant. Interment will follow the Hanover Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Senaido Jauriqui Jr., Arturo Jauriqui, Cecilio Jauriqui, Gilbert Jauriqui, Johnny Rodriguez and George Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Rodriguez, Adrian Jauriqui, Santiago Jauriqui and Diego Godoy. The Wheeler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JEANS: Elmer Jeans, 67, World War I veteran, died Tuesday in Fort Bayard Veterans Hospital. He was a resident of Lordsburg the past six years where he was correspondent for the El Paso Times. Survivors 'are his wife, Mrs. Ruby Jeans; two daughters, Mrs. T. L. Dykes of Dallas, Tex., and Mrs. Richard Gilmore of Deming; eight grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. S. L. Shofner of Edmond, Okla., and one brother, H. L. Jeans of Lubbock, Tex.

Jemison: Sheryl Jemison, 23, former Grant County resident, passed away Saturday, Jan. 14, in an Albuquerque hospital following a long illness. She is survived by a 2-year-old daughter, Stephanie; her parents, Ben and Nancy Jemison; one brother, Ben Jemison Jr.; a sister Paula Jemison; and her grandmother, Ella Young, all of Albuquerque. JENKINS: William F. Jenkins, 61, passed away Thursday, July 21, at his residence in Tyrone, Mr. Jenkins was a native of Spokane, Wash., and had resided in Grant County for the past ten years. He was a veteran of World War H, and was employed by Phelps Dodge Corporation at the time ofdeath. Mr. Jenkins is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Jenkins of Tyrone a daughter, Charlotte Ellen Grimes of Kingman, Ariz, two sons William Jenkins, Jr., of Prescott, Ariz., Kevin Jenkins of Tyrone, one grandson and a brother, Ernest Jenkins of Clifton, Ariz. Funeral services were held Monday, July 25, at the Curtis-Bright Funeral Chapel with Mr. Rex Stailey and Mr. Doug Bair officiating. Interment, followed in Ft. Bayard National Cemetery with the Allinghan-Golding Post No. 18 of the American Legion conducting graveside services. Serving as pallbearers were Jack Nowlin, D.D. JENKS: Mrs. Blanche Jenks, 84, a former long-time resident of Silver City, died last Thuraday in a hospital near her home at West Covina, calif. Mrs. Jenka was the Widow of the late S. B Jenks, operator of a, garage In Silver City for many years. She had been under treatment for injuries suffered in a fall at her home. Survivors Include her son Richard Jenks, of the Canal Zone; her daughter, Miss Jenks of West Covina; a brother Fiska Harsh Harsh of Silver city; two sisters, Mrs Gladys Steward of Sliver City, Mrs Frances Anderson of West Covina one ganddaughter and one great grandson. Mr and Mrs Harsh and Mrs steward made the trip to CA to attend the funeral.

JENKS: Pamela Potter Jenks, 51, formerly of Santa Barbara, Calif., died Friday at her home in Pinos Altos following a long illness. Mrs. Jenks is the daughter of the late Edwin S. Potter of Santa Barbara and the stepdaughter of the Rev. Charles Halsey Clark and his wife, Priscilla Hannah Clark of Concord, N.H. She is survived by her husband, James Lyon Jenks of Pinos Altos; her son, John Sperry Reynolds and his wife, Deanna and her son, Erik Butler Reynolds and is wife, Rosio; two granddaughters, Ryann Christine and Grace Robin; and a stepdaughter, Jaime Katherine Jenks. She is also survived by her sisters, the Rev. Martha Clark Boothby, Mary Clark Price and Ann Halsey Clark; her brother, Nathaniel C. Clark; and several nieces and nephews. At the family's request, cremation has taken place with Mimbres Crematorium and a memorial will be held at a later date in Santa Barbara. No local services are scheduled. JENNESS: Mrs. Alice Ruth Jenness, 69, died Saturday at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Fort Bayard. She had been ill for several months. Survivng are her husband, Joseph N. Jenness; three sisters, Mrs. C. R. Miller, Huntington Woods, Mich.; Mrs. Helena Proken, Detroitand Mrs. Carolyn Holmes, Ensenda, Calif., and a brother, O. C. Lawrence, Benton Harbor, Mich. Cox Mortuary was in charge of funeral arraingments. The body was sent to Albuquerque for cremation.

JENNESS: Joe N. Jenness, 81, died Saturday at a Las Cruces rest home. He had been a resident of Silver City 20 years. He was a member of the Baptist Church, the Rosary Club and an active worker with the Boy Scouts. He is survived by his wife, Marion of Silver City. Memorial services will be held today (Thursday) at 4p.m. in the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. They will be conducted by the Rev. Donald Brent of the Baptist Church and the Rev. Donald Brent of the Baptist Church and the Rev. C.M. Henderson, pastor of the Episcopal Church. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the donor's favorite charity.

JENNESS: Marion L. Jenness died Oct. 4 in Silver City. She was born in Riverside, Ill., on Oct. 10, 1895, one of six children, all of who preceded her in death. She moved to Mogollon from Toledo, Ohio, in 1928 with her husband, H.R. Heyne, and two children, Janet and Richard. She lived there until 1950 when she moved to Silver City, where she resided until her death. Her son, who was a fighter pilot in World War II, was lost over Germany in 1944. Her husband died in 1948. She was married years later to Joe N. Jenness, who preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Janet Sherman of Deming; a grandson, Jeff Ray of Bayard; a granddaughter, Judy Crow of Merced, Calif.; and a great-grandson, Christopher Russell, also of Merced. Memorial services will be held in the Valley Community Church in Arenas Valley at 3 p.m. Friday. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one's chosen charity.

JENNINGS: Elizabeth Jennings 100 died Saturday in Silver city. She was born in Pierce county Wisc. And had been a resident of Grant County for 11 years. She is survived by one sister, Florence and her husband, George Ewan of Silver City; one brother John R Jennings ---- William Buchholz of Hudson Wis; by two sisters, Rose McCune and Teresa Jennings; and by three brothers, Con, Charles and Andrew. JENNINGS: R. B. Jennings, former resident and operator of Jennings Auto Court, succumbed late Tuesday according to word received by Hubert 0. Robertson, local attorney. He is survived by his wife, Lottie. Funeral arrangements are pending with the La Crosse Funeral Hôme in El Paso.

JENNINGS: William A. Jennings, a former resident of Grant County where he was born, died the past week in Phoenix, where he had resided for more than 40 years. For many years he had lived on a farm and with his son specialized in the raising of fancy pigeons, which had won numerous national prizes. He is survived by his wife, Mrs Claribel Fleming Jennings; a son, William, Jr., of Phoenix, and three sisters.

JENNINGS: Funeral services were held here Sunday for Bryon Jennings, 8-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Jennings of Stockton Calif. who died last Wednesday evening in San Francisco. Byron, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Dannelley of Hurley, has been ill for 18 months. Burial was in the Masonic cemetery under the direction of the Cox mortuary, with the Rev. H.E. Johnson officiating. Pallbearers were J.C. Crowder, A.D. Ford, J.B. Mosely, and F. E. Phillips.

JENNINGS: Neal O. Jennings, 77, a former resident of Silver City, died June 23 in Lodi, Calif. He was born in Santa Rita on March 29, 1915. He was a Hurley High School graduate. Mr. Jennings in 1941 moved with his family to California, wehre he worked as an electrician. Survivors include his wife, Etta Mae Jennings of Lodi; two sons, Delbert Jennings of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Donald Jennings of Lodi; and a brother, Arvel Jennings of Yuma, Ariz. He was preceded in death by a son, Byron, in 1948. Graveside services were conducted by Pastor G. G. Rauser on June 29 in Lodi.

JENSEN: Lily Willeen Deveny Jensen, 81, died Saturday, March 25, at home in Silver City. A celebration of her life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bright Funeral Home with Father Robert Ihlefeld officiating. Visitation with the family will follow at the home of the daughter, Cecilia Jensen Bell. Additional services will be conducted Saturday in Mitchell, Neb., at Jones' Funeral Chapel interment of remains will follow at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Morrill, Neb. She was born Easter Sunday, March 31, 1918, in Guernsey, Wyo. She was the daughter of Berth Lee Parham DeVeny and Cecil Clyde DeVeny. On May 7, 1941, she married James Robert Jensen in Morrill. She is survived by her husband, James Jensen, and daughter, Cecilia Jensen Bell, and her husband. Dr. John Bell, of Silver City. She is also survived by her brother, Cecil DeVeny of Paso Robles, Calif.; three grandsons, Micheal Bell and his wife, Linda Flores, of Albuquerque, Matthew Bell and his wife, Kathy Lucero Bell, of Las Cruces, and Mark Bell of Silver City. Two very special great- grandchildren, Amythest and James, of Las Cruces are also survivors. She is also survived by four sisters-in- law, Frances Simonds, Bertha Libershal, Edna Maloy and Erma Carpenter; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was born on a homestead ranch near Guernsey Wyo. And later moved to morill to attend public school. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Morell. Following graduation from school she attended buisiness college at Hastings Neb. She returned to Morell and worked for the Moline insurance Co. After her marriage she and her husband farmed in the Platte Valley of the Nebraska Panhandle for more than 20 years. In 1962, she moved with her family to Austin, Texas, where she worked at Seton Hospital. In 1973, the Jensens moved to Silver City. Mrs. Jensen enjoyed giving of herself to children and young people. She taught Sunday school in the nursery department of the Methodist Church in Morrill for 10 years. She was a Blue Bird leader and guardian of the Morrill Order of Job's Daughters. She also gave generously of her time and talents to her grandchildren. She knitted sweaters for the Silver High band to sell as part of their moneymaking projects, and spent time altering and repairing the band uniforms. She was the "grandmother" to many foreign exchange students who stayed with the Bell family. She was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter of Morrill and Newcomers club of Silyer Citv where she enjoyed' playing bridge. She enjoyed sewing and knitting for family and friends. Outings with the Elk's Club camping group were always pleasurable to her. She enjoyed family outings, especially picnics to City of Rocks and fishing along Gila River. She looked forward to special moments with the great-grandchildren. They enjoyed the "rite" of sharing Coffee and going to the Community Built Park. Donations can be made to Penny Park, Silver city. JENSEN: Upsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held its regular meeting last Thursday evening at the Woman's Club. In memoriam, services were then held in memory of Gertrude Jensen, who was a charter member of the organization in 1945, treasurer for the years 1949-50 and corresponding secretary-elect for 1950-51. She was very active in all club activities. Mrs. Jensen was employed as a finance officer at Fort Bayard. The impressive candlelight sevice was conducted by Mrs. Effie Phillips, director.

JENSEN: Funeral services were held at the Cox Mortuary Chapel last Friday afternoon for Mrs. Gertrude Hackley Jensen. Mrs. Jensen died at the Hillcrest General Hospital last Wednesday aftera brief illness. She was 41 years of age and had served as the finance officer at the Ft. Bayard Veteran Hospital for some time prior to her death. Funeral services were conducted at the chapel by the Rev. Earl Kettler of Hot Springs and burial was in the Silver City cemetery. Pallbearers were fellow workers at the Ft. Bayard hospital. They were: Linus P. Burke, L.P. Horcasitas, Morris L. Kimmel, and Lowell C. Like, Ralph C. Moore and William Triviz. Survivors are a son, Wade Jensen; a sister Beulah Hackley, both of Silver City; a brother, Elwood Hackley, Portland, Ore.; her mother-in-law, Mrs. John Staple, Waukegan, Ill.; an aunt, Mrs. Barbara Willams, Portland; and three uncles, Arthur, Chris and Carl Stephanson, all of Wisconsin.

JENSEN: Wade Albert Jensen, a longtime resident of Silver City, died Monday in Phoenix. He was born in Waukegan, ILL. on Sept. 2 1938. He was a telephone technician, working for Mountain States Telephone Co. in Cliff maintaining the Cliff, Glenwood and Reserve telephone systems for a number of years. He was the first engineer for radio station KNFT in Grant County and hosted a Saturday program in the early '70s. After leaving the Silver City area in 1972, he became involved in business. He obtained his pilots license and owned several airplanes. Mr. Jensen was very athletic and climbed 50 mountain peaks with altitudes of 14,000 feet or more. He died of a heart attack after one of his usual thrice-weekly climbs up Camelback Mountain in Phoenix. He is survived by his wife, Ella Mae knsen, and sons, Jens Jensen of Nutrioso, Ariz., Dale Jensen of Cave Creek, Ariz., and Skip Jensen of Denton, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and his aunt, Beulah Hackley of Phoenix. A memorial service was held at the Jensen Ranch in Nutrioso today. An additional service will be held March 2 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 658 Grand Ave., Waukegan.

PRIVETTS: Jesse Dean Privetts, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby J. Privetts passed away Friday December 31, at Bernalillo County Medical Center in Albuquerque. He is survived by his parents, paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Privetts of Mimbres and his maternal grand parents, Mr and Mrs. Sam Martin of Espinolá. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jànuary 4 at the Curtis-Bright funeral Chapel with Mr. Charles Flant of the 12th and West Streets Church of Christ officiating. Interment followed in Memory Lane Cemetery.

JESSEN: G. J. Jessen of Rensselear,Ind. died Sunday, April 25. He was a brother of the late Dr. L. A. Jessen of Bayard and had been ill for some time. It was this sick brother whom Dr. Jessen had gone to Indiana to see when he suffered a fatal heart attack April 11. G. J. Jessen was well known in this area having made several visits here.
Mrs: Anna B. Jessen, 76, for many years a resident of Bayard passed away Tuesday in Colorado Springs, Colo, She was the widow of Dr. L. A. Jessen, who died in 1954.Surviving are two sons, Philip Jessen, Colorado Springs, and Capt. William Jessen, U.S. Air Force, Biggs Field, El Paso, and several grandchildren. Graveside burial services will be held Friday at 4 p.m. in the Masonic cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Harold E. Johnson, Internment will be under direction of the Curtis Mortuary.

JEWELL; Kenneth Earl Jewell, 82, resident of 1220 West Oak died at Mimbres Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 16, 1901 in Bloom Township, Richland Center, Wis. He was a retired farmer and in July of 1977 he moved to Deming from Modesto, Calif. Funeral services and interment are set to be in Richland Center Wis. this week. Locally he is survived by his wife, Rose E. Jewell of the home. Baca's Wheeler Funeral Chapels was in charge of arrangements.

The prayer vigil will be held Monday night at 7 in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard, where the funeral liturgy will be held Tuesday morning at 10, with the Rev. JIMENEZ: Cleofas Vasquez Jimenez, 62, a Lordsburg resident, died Friday in a veteran’s hospital in Tucson, Ariz. Visitation will start this afternoon at 4 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lordsburg. The prayer vigil will be held there this evening at 7. The funeral liturgy will be recited Wednesday morning at 10 at St. Joseph’s with the Rev. Sam Garcia officiating. Interment will follow at Shakespeare Cemetery. Mr. Jimenez was born April 9, 1930, at Valedon, N.M. He was a service station attendant. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. Mr. Jimenez was a lifelong Lordsburg resident, and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He is survived by a brother, Jerardo Jimenez of Silver City; four sisters, Paula Mirabel of Reserve, Dellie Diaz of Silver City, Barbara Levario of Los Angeles, and Ernestina Morelos of Lordsburg; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers will be Matthew Talavera, Adam Contreras, Ray Contreras, Juan Verdugo Jr., Paul Diaz and David Diaz. Honorary bearers will be John Levario and Juan Verdugo. JIMENEZ: Felix C. Jimenez, Jr., 66, a lifelong Lordsburg resident, passed away Saturday at Gila Regional Medical Center in Silver City. He was born Feb. 12, 1928, to Felix and Antonia (Ontiveros) Jimenez at the McGee Mine near Steins, N.M. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II and the Korean War. He married Helen Diaz on Nov. 30, 1968, in Lordsburg. Mr. Jimenez was a member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3099, a member of the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus and the Fraternal Order of Police, and an honorary member of Beneficio Propio. He served as a troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America and was a Little League coach. In his early years, he was employed with Southern Pacific Railroad. He was later employed by E. J. Short and Co. and worked as an inspector atthe port of entry. Mr. Jimenez enjoyed the outdoors, hiking and camping. He also enjoyed reading and telling people about New Mexico. His hobby was collecting H.O. trains. He was the Lordsburg Mavericks' biggest fan, and was usually the first to arrive and the last to leave at the many sporting events he attended. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Helen Jimenez of Lordsburg; a daughter, Emilie Campbell, and her husband, Tom, of Columbus, Neb.; three sons, Manuel Pedro Medina and his wife, Theresa, of Garden Grove, Calif., Florencio Medina and his wife, Caroline, of Las Cruces, and Felix C. Jimenez III of Lordsburg; three sisters, Carmen Vigil of Silver City, Estella Guerrero and her husband, Luciano, of Lordsburg, and Isabel Tarango of Lordsburg; two brothers, Antonio Jimenez and Apolonio Jimenez, both of Lordsburg; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The prayer vigil (rosary) will begin at 7 tonight at St.Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Lordsburg. The funeral liturgy will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Karl Polm-Faudre celebrating. The rite of committal will follow in Shakespeare Cemetery with military honors accorded by the New Mexico National Guard of Lordsburg. Jimenez: Isela Gonzalez Jimenez, a housewife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away Saturday, Jan. 14 in Henderson, Nev. She was born and reared in Santa Rita and had resided in Phoenix for 28 years. Survivors include her husband, Julian Jimenez; four daughters, Marla Woodall of Phoenix, Pam Salas of New York City, Angela Isbell of Phoenix and Isela "Posie" Nejbauer of Henderson; two grandchildren, Julianne and Michael Isbell; and her brother, Ruben E. Gonzalez of Bayard. She was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Altar Society and the Westwood Extension Homemakers Club. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery in Phoenix. JIMENEZ: Ramon V. Jimenez, 21, died Saturday, March 29, in Central. Mr. Jimenez was born in Hobbs, and had been a long time resident of Grant County where he was a communicant of Santa ClaraCatholic Church in Central and a volunteer for the Central Fire Department. JIMENEZ: Eduviges Molina Jimenez, 86, a resident of Bayard, entered into eternal rest Friday, Dec. 11, at University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque. She was born Aug. 13, 1912,in San Lorenzo and was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard. Mrs. Jimenez and her beloved husband, Manuel, attended funeral services of all their acquaintances in the area. They will be greatly missed by their family and the community. JIMENEZ: Juanita Jimenez, 97, passed away at her home in Silver City on Friday. "Mama Jennie," as she was lovingly called by all who knew her, will be greatly missed. She touched many lives in different ways. She was a very humble person who always strived to help and comfort family, friends and employers. She was the organist for St. Anthony's Church, Holy Family and Holy Cross Mission, from 1919 to 1937, when the family moved to Goldroad, Aria. She resumed the role upon her return to New Mexico from 1943-48. She was highly esteemed by the young women in her choir. She was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus League and was a Guadalupana since an early age. She loved children and flowers. She anxiously anticipated spring to see her rose garden in full bloom. In recent times, her biggest pleasure was to sit on her porch and watch the children at play at the day-care cent r next door to her home. She adored her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Genaro, in 1975. Survivors include two daughters, Conrile Becerta-Herron and Felicitas N. Jimenez, and one son, Gabriel N. Jimenez, and his wife, Maria, all of Silver City. Also surviving are one stepdaughter, Rosa Gomez of California; 10 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, step-great-great-grandchildren, and nephews and nieces. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons, Gino Jimenez, John Becerra, Bill Herron, Alan Arguelbo, Salvador Davila and Andrew Davila. JIMENEZ: Mrs. Josefa .M. Jimenez, born March 19, 1869, a resident of Grant County for 85 years, died Sunday at Hillcrest Hospital in Silver City at the age of 99. Mrs. Jimenez is survived by a son, Manuel Jimenez of Bayard; a. daughter, Mrs. Maria Montoya of Sherman; three brothers, Ruperto, Baltazar, and Jesus Martinez, all of Los Angeles, Calif.; nine grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. He was a former employee of Kennecott Copper Corporation, having retired from his duties in June of 1959 after 35 years of service. JIRON: Abran Jiron, 92, passed away Tuesday, May 19, in El Paso, Texas. He had been a resident of El Paso for four years, moving there from Reserve, where he had previously lived all his life. He retired as a U.S. Forest Service employee in 1964. He was also a school bus driver and rancher. Mr. Jiron was preceded in death by his wife, Romelia Jiron; a son, Gregorio Jiron; and a daughter, Rita Peralta. He is survived by one son, George Jiron; and two daughters, Flora Trujillo and Lilly Rael. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. The rosary will be recited Friday at 7 p.m. at San Francisco Catholic Church in Reserve. Mass of the Christian burial will celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at San Francisco Catholic Church in Reserve. JIRON: Victor Jiron, who was born on the Lower Frisco March 27, 1896, died April 9 in the White Mountain Hospital, Springerville. He had been ill for about a month. Mr. Jiron had lived in Reserve and vicinity all of his life, taking an active role in community and political affairs. He had served as County Treasurer, County Assessor, and was on the Reserve school board for 20 years. For many years he owned and operated Vic's Service Station. He was an active member of the San Francisco Catholic Church. The deceased served in World War I and was a member of American Legion Otero-Garcia Post 72, Albuquerque. Mr. Jiron is survived by his widow Emilia Kiehne Jiron, five daughters, Natalie Aragon, Santa Ynez, California, Mathilda Bessire, High Rolls, Mary Ellen Hogsett, Santa Fe, Dora Jiron, Reserve, and Ruby Esquibel, Bloomfield; three brothers, Florenelo, Santiago and Abran Jiron, all of Reserve; and ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Services were held April 12 at the San Francisco Church with Father lsmael Manero and Father John Esquibel, Santa Fe, officiating. Interment was in the Middle Frisco Cemetery. The nephews of the deceased served as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.

COLLINS: Alfred Shell received word Sunday that his sister and her husband, Mr and Mrs. John Collins, were both killed instantly in an accident near St Louis. A son and his wife were also in the accident and injured but Mr. Shell had not received any details of how the accident happened or how seriously the other couple was injured. Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Collins were held in their home town, Lutesville, Mo. Because of the fact that his secretary is now on vacation, Mr. Shell was unable to leave in time to attend the services.

JOHNS: Dr. Willis 0. Johns, 110, retired chiropractor of Silver City, and a resident for 37 years, died Tuesday at 7:20 p.m. at the family home, 515 West Broadway. A sudden heart attack proved fatal. Dr. Johns for many years had a successful practice, together with his wife Mrs. Anna Johns, who survives. He was well known throughout the community. A graduate of the Palmer School in Davenport, Iowa, Dr. Johns was a member of the Masonic Lodge in that city. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Cox Mortuary, awaiting the arrival from Oklahoma of two brothers of Mrs. Johns.

JOHNS: Oscar L, Johns, 58, of Alamogordo died Saturday in a one car traffic accident on Noth Cooper St., In front of the courthouse when his car went out of control and crashed into a tree. The accident was investigated by Police Chief Thomas Ryan and police officers. Johns was pronounced dead on arrival at Hillcrest Hospital. Examination indicated the victim had suffered no serious injuries in the accident and an autopsy was ordered. This reveald that Johns died of a heart attack and lost control of his car. He had been under treatment at Fort Bayard Veterans Hospital for a heart ailment. The Curtis Mortuary had control of funeral arrangement, and the body was sent to Alamogordo were funeral services were held, followed by burial.

Johns; Dr. Anna Jane Johns, 83, of Silver City died May 17. Dr. Johns resided in Silver City for 61 years with her late husband, Dr. Willis Johns, where she was a chiropractor since the early 1930's. Dr. Johns was a member of the Eastern Star in Silver City for many years and will recieve their burial rites. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. She is survived by nieces and nephews, most of who reside in Oklahoma. Services were at the Wheeler Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Saucier and the Eastern Star conducting on May 20. Burial followed at the Masionic Cemetery. All arraingments by Wheeler Funeral Home.

JOHNS: Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today for David Johns, Sr., at the Cox Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Harold E. Johnson, pastor of the Santa Rita Community Church, will officate. Mr. Johns died late Monday afternoon at the Hillcrest General Hospital where he had been ill for about one week. His health had been failing for the last year. David Johns was born in Johnstown, Pa., Sept. 11, 1889. He served in France for 22 months during which he suffered an injury as a member of the U.S. Army Engineers. On March 8, 1920, he was married to Elda Phucent, who survives, and the couple made their home in Johnstown, Pa., and in New Jersey. Mr Johns came to Grant County with his family in 1933 and received treatment at Fort Bayard. Besides his widow, he is surrvived by four daughters, Mrs. Vernel Clark of Silver City, Mrs. D.N. Richards of Silver City, Mrs. J.D. Dillard of Dumas, Te., and Mrs. Tom McDonald of Silver City; a son, Sgt 1/c David Johns Jr., of White Sands Proving Grounds; and seven grandchildren.

JOHNS: Elda T. Johns, 89, a resident of Silver City since 1933, died at her home Thursday morning. Mrs. Johns was born April 17, 1900, in Williamsburg, Pa., was a retired executive secretary for the Red Cross, and was a member of the Rebekahs Lodge, the American Association of Retired Persons and the Disabled American Veterans. She was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church. Calling hours will be Monday from 3-5 p.m. in Baca's Hillcrest Funeral chapels. Funeral services will be Tuesday morning at 10 in Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels with the Rev. Kenneth Palmer, retired, officiating. Concluding services will follow in Memory Lane Cemetery. Survivors are her son, David Johns Jr. of Las Cruces; three daughters, Evelyn Clark of Cliff, Lois Decker of Prescott, Ariz., and Marge Pruit of Silver City; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Johns, in 1952, and a daughter, Betty Kroehnke, in 1985. JOHNS: Sylvia H. Johns, 75, a resident of Silver City, died Tuesday in the Gila Regional Medical Center. Survivors are her husband, Lee Johns of Silver City; two sons, Mark H. Johns of Silver City and Kim L. Johns of Baton Rouge, La.; and a daughter, Bonnie L. Wheelin of Tucson, Ariz. Private committal service will be held at a later date. JOHNS: Sam Johns, 78, passed away Friday. Johns was a residcnt of Virden and had been alongtime farmer in the area. He is survived by his wife, Irene; a son, James Waddell of SantaMaria, Calif.; a daughter, Nita Perry of Quemado; and four sisters, Jo Roy of San Diego, OrphnCrawford of Safford, Ariz., Grace Millett of Victorville, Calif., and Lorraine McGorffin of Benson, Ariz. JOHNSON: Asa Albert Johnson died last Thursday at the age of 89 at Pleasant View Guest Home in Silver City. A native of Brownwood, Tex., Mr. Johnson was a veteran of the Spanish-American War, and came to New Mexico In 1880, where he homesteaded in the Hillsboro urea. He later moved to Mogollon where he served as a deputy sheriff during that mining town's boom days. Leaving Mogollon, Mr. Johnson bought and operated the Blue. Front Bar at Glenwood for 10 years. Survivors include his widow. Mrs. Nellie Johnson who is also under care at Pleasant View Guest Home; two step daughters, Mrs. Ann Richards of Las Cruces and Mrs. Ida Bohn of San Jose, Calif.; one step son, Dudley Messer of Silver City; nine step-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Alice Kent of LaMesa, Calif.

JOHNSON: Carl W. Johnson, 71, died at Hillcrest Hospital Friday morning following a brief illness. Mr. Johnson was a native of Mena, Arkansas, and had lived in Grant County for the past 34 years. He retired, from Kennecott Copper Corp in 1965 as locomotive engineer. He was a past member of Santa Rita Masonlc'Lodge No. 44 A.F. & A.M. and Patron of the Martha Chapter of Eastern Star.Survivors include his wife Vivian, of Silver City; and one sister, Mrs. Pearl Miller of Decatur, Ark Funeral services were held in the Curtis Bright Funeral Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Monday with interment following In Memory Lane Cemetery. The Rev. Alfred C. Pace of the First United Methodist Church of Silver City officiated.

JOHNSON: Carlos G. Johnson, 86, a longtime Hachita resident, passed away Tuesday, March 3, in Deming. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Friday at Baca's Funeral Chapels in Deming where the prayer vigil will begin at 5. Mass of the resurrection will be Saturday morning at 10:30 at St. Ann's Catholic Church with Father Alfred Galvan officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. He was born Nov. 4, 1911, in Salto de Agua, Chiapas, Mexico, to Carlos and Hipolita Johnson. He worked for the immigration service for 56 years until his retirement in 1996. Mr. Johnson was a resident of Hachita for about 56 years, moving there from Salto de Agua. He was a member of St. Catherine's of Sienna Catholic Church in Hachita. His family includes his wife, Rosa Johnson of Deming; five sons, Carlos R. Johnson of La Verne, Calif., Mike Johnson of Radium Springs, Jim Johnson of Morenci, Ariz., and Charley and David Johnson ;of Playas; two daughters, Carroll of Las Cruces and Christine Johnson-Griffin of Englewood, Co., 34 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Christina, and a brother, Felipe Johnson. Pallbearers will be Mike, Jim, David, Carbos, Chancy and Mikael Johnson. JOHNSON: Charles Ray Johnson, 60, of Hanover entered eternal life Monday Nov. 3O, at Gila Reginal Medical Center. Mr. Johnson was born July 9, 1938, to the late William H and Lillian (Hamilton) Johnson. Cremation was by Baca's Minbres Crematory in Deming. No services are planned at this time. JOHNSON: Consuelo G. Johnson, 93, a longtime Silver City resident, died Sunday morning at her home. She was born April 30, 1905, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to the late Antonio and Teresa (Mendez) Garcia. She came to the United States as a young woman and worked as a housekeeper for many years. She married Lawrence H. Johnson on Nov. 19, 1959, in Lordsburg. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed embroidering and crocheting. Funeral services were to be held this morning at 10 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-saints with Bishop Merrill D. Cook officiating. Dedication of the grave followed at Memory Lane Cemetery. Survivors include her guardians, Raul B. and Esperanza S. Turrieta of Silver City, and her very good friends, Alfonso and Anita Martinez. JOHNSON: D.R. "Red" Johnson, 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1920, passed away quietly in his sleep early in the morning of Sunday, Feb. 14. He came to New Mexico in 1920 from Louisville, Ky., with his parents, Frederick Edgar Johnson and Theodosia Pearl, his sister and three brothers. He went to work for Bill Cutter at Cutter Airfield, now the Albuquerque Sunport, during the early days of pioneer aviation. Mr. Johnson organized the first Glider Club in New Mexico. At the age of 17, he moved on to work for Hutchinson Fruit Co. It was on a trip through Mountainair that he spotted the love of his life, Dorothy Maxwell. They were married in 1934, and "the man who made her laugh" brought the little farm girl to the city. Not long after they married, he came down with tuberculosis. He was one of the early TB patients treated by surgery to remove the dread lung disease and his surgery was successful. Mr. Johnson chose the field of advertising specialty sales, and became the local expert on calendars, pens, pencils and such. He and his wife were active members of Bethel United Pentecostal Church, He lost Mrs. Johnson to ovarian cancer in 1989, 55-years-after she first came into his life. He began to struggle with life on his own after symptoms of Alzheimer's began to surface several years ago. Mr. Johnson is survived by his two daughters, Pamela Wolfe and husband, Morris, of Las Cruces, and Judy Bell and husband, Carl, of San Diego; granddaughters, Jane Burk of Silver City, Judy Sharder of Los Angeles, Kimberly Jackson, Alexandra Bell and Kristen Bell; and a great-granddaughter, Taylor Campbell. He was preceded in death by his sister, Opal Charlotte Johnson; and brothers, Quinton Edgar, Albuquerque Police Department Retired Deputy Chief M. Fred Johnson, and retired Albuquerque bus driver Harry Lee Roy Johnson. Services were held this morning at French Mortuary in Albuquerque with the Rev. Mike Mullen officiating. A eulogy was delivered by the Rev. T.H. Chapman of Midland, Texas. Interment followed at Fairview Memorial Park. French Mortuary of Albuquerque was in charge.

JOHNSON: Donald Johnson, 68, a resident of Silver City for the past four years, died here Saturday after a lingering illness. Mr. Johnson was a native of Chico Tex., and was raised and educated in Blossom, Tex. He was a retired manager for the Community Public Service Company, having resigned after 31 years of service. His last connection with the company was as manager of the Lordsburg office. After his retirement he was manager of the Bel Shore Motel in Lordsburg before moving to Silver City. He was a member of Blossom Lodge number 303, A.F.&A.M., of Blossom, Texes, and of the First United Methodist Church of Silver City. He was the brother of the late George T. Johnson, district manager of Public, Service Company. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mildred Johnson of Silver City one son, Allan Johnson of El Paso, Tex; three grandchildren; and a niece Mrs. Lee Lundwall of Silver City. Funeral services were held in the Curtis Mortuary Chapel at 2:30 p m Tuesday with the Rev. Alfred Pace of the First United Methodist church officiating. JOHNSON: Edwan Johnson, 83, a reside Silver City, entered eternal rest Wednesday Nov. 11. He was born 19, 1915, in Wake Mich. to Herman and (Erickson) Johnson. He was a retired core driller. JOHNSON: Fayrene Goodner Johnson, 74, of Virden died Saturday, Aug. 14, at Sun Haven Care Center in Lordsburg. Services were conducted at 11 this morning at First Southern Baptist Church in Duncan,Ariz. Interment was in the Duncan Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson was born March 26, 1925, in Vivian, Okla., the daughter of William Gamble Goodner and Geleene Upshaw Goodner. She attended schools in Franklin and Duncan. She married Ralph N. Johnson on Feb. 6, 1943, in Lordsburg. She was a homemaker and believed in the eternal importance of the home as the fundamental institution of society. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Duncan. Her ministries included teaching Sunday school and women's Bible studies, as well as leading the youth group, caring for the home bound, and serving as song leader. She coordinated summer Bible school for many years. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, bird watching, and visiting with friends and family members. Survivors include her husband, Ralph Johnson of Virden; three daughters, Judy and her husband Richard Clifton, of Playas Janice and her husband Greg Webb, of Virden, and JaNeil and her husband Walt Anderson, of Redrock one son, Greg, and Amy Johnson of Virden; a brother Bruce Goodner, and his wife, Mickey, of Safford Ariz.; three sisters, Adelia O'Neal of McKinney, Texas, Helen Boyd and her husband, Wylie, of Duncan, and Norma Jean Hawkins and her husband, Fred, of Kirk- wood, Mo.; four grandchildren, Si Crawford and his wife, Lorraine, Monty Crawford and his wife, Sonia, Chance Lake and Caleb Clifton; one great-grand-daughter, Peyton May; three great-grandsons, Skecter, Stirrup and Michael Crawford; eight nieces; and six nephews. A brother, Burnace Goodner; a sister, Wilma Garrett; and her parents, Will and Geleene Goodner, preceded her in death. JOHNSTON: George H. Johnston, 56, of Hurley, died Monday at Fort Bayard Veterans Hospital. Surviving is his Wife. He was a Veteran of World War I. Funeral services were to be held at 11 am today in the Fort Bayard chapel with interment in the Fort Bayard cemetery.

JOHNSON: Grace L Johnson, 63, died Friday in Silver City. She was born in Greenville, N.Y., and was a 17 year resident of Grant County. She is survived by her husband, Edward R. Johnson of Silver City; two daughters, Eleanor Nieder of Sedalia, Mo., and Valda Johnson of Phoenix, Ariz.; her mother, Louise White of Fort Bayard; a brother, Richard Hosking of Garner, NC.; and two grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Memory Lane Cemetery with the Rev. Tomas Perez officiating. Interment will follow. Arrangements were made by Wheeler Funeral Home of Silver City.

JOHNSON: Memorial services were held for the late Rev. Harold E. Johnson at two o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Valley Community Church, of which he was pastor for 43 years. In charge of the service was his brother the Rev. Edwin C. Johnson of St. Paul, Minn. assisting were members of the Grant County Ministerial Association. Private funeral services were held at the Curtis Mortuary Chapel with interment following in Memory Lane Cemetery.

JOHNSON: Funeral services were held Tuesday morning in Deming for Ivan Johnson, 43, who was instantly killed Saturday evening in a two-car collision on the Silver City Central highway. The services, held at the Wheeler Mortuary in Deming were largely attended attesting to the popularity of the deceased who spent many years in this area. He was a resident of Hanover. Ivan Johnson was born in Okla., Sept 26 1907. He moved to New Mexico as a child and spent most of his early years as a resident of Roy, NM. He became one of the first 10 New Mexico State Patrolman and was stationed in Deming until 1937 resigning at that time to become affiliated with the H J Finn agency there. In 1939 he became interested in mining here and at the time of his death was the office manager of the Peru Mining Co at Hanover.

JOHNSON: Jasmine Lame Johnson, 6 weeks, entered into eternal rest Friday, Dec.11, at University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque. She was born Oct. 30, 1998, in Albuquerque. Graveside funeral services will be held Friday at 10 in the morning in Memory Lane Cemetery with the Rev. Jesse Liles officiating. Survivors include her parents, Adam Lame Johnson and Jennifer Marie Coffee of Silver City; maternal grandparents, Linda Coffee of Silver City and Jim Coffee of Wooster, Ohio; paternal grandparents, Lora Johnson of Carlsbad, and Thomas Johnson and his wife, Judy, of Silver City; and numerous aunts and uncles. JOHNSON: Mildred Bell Johnson, 95, of Silver City passed away Saturday, July 31, at Gila Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Penrod officiating. Interment will be in the Masonic Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson was born Aug. 14, 1903, in Paris, Texas. She was the daughter of Rufus and Cora Bell. Mrs. Johnson married Jessie Donald Johnson on May 18, 1922, in Paris. He preceded her in death. She is survived by one niece, Helen Lundwall, and her husband, Lee, of Silver City; three grandchildren, Alien Johnson Jr. of Virginia, Georgiann Laine of Mesquite, Texas, and Donald Johnson of Austin, Texas; and five great-grand- children, Casey Laine, Georgia Johnson, Michael Johnson, Franklin Johnson and Nora Johnson. She was pre- ceded in death by her parents; her husband. Donald, in 1970; and a son, Allan L. Johnson, in 1990. Mrs. John- son graduated from Paris High School and North Texas Teachers College in Denton, Texas. She taught school in Blossom, Texas, until she and Mr. Johnson moved to Lordsburg in 1938. She retired from the Lordsburg School District on Sept. 1, 1963. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gila Regional Hospice, Silver City, NM 88061. JOHNSON: Mrs Marie Ahee Johnson, 73, died Aug 23 at Hillcrest hospital. A native of Pueblo Colo she had lived in Hurley for the past 26 years. She is survived by her husband Enoch, of Hurley. Funeral services were held in the Curtis Bright funeral chapel with the Rev Eugene A Bjork of the Hurley Community church officiating. Internment was in Memory Lane cemetery.

JOHNSON: Death Thursday, March 21 claimed Mrs. C. E. Johnson, who died at Sliver City General hospital after a brief illness, of a, heart ailment At her bedside was her son Christopher Johnson, recently discharged from the Navy after 30 months of overseas service. Mrs. Johnson was born at Promont, Nebr., Jan. 11, 1878. She came to New Mexlco in 1902 with her husband Charles E B Johnson, and lived for three years at Mogollon where Mr. Johnson was employed as an engineer by a mining company there. There after, they made their home in Silver City, where Mr. Johnson for years foIlowed his engineering profession servng as Grant county surveyor and highway superintendent, city engineer and as a U.S. Mineral surveyor. Mr. Johnson was killed several years ago in a highway accident in Utah.

JOHNSON: Mrs. Cora Johnson, 82, a resident of the Apache Creek community for the past 36 years, died at her residence there July 23. Survivors of the deceased include her husband, Waiter Johnson, a retired rancher of Apache Creek; a daughter, Mrs. Jewell Wright of Reserve; a grandson and a sister. The funeral service, under the direction of the Curtis Mortuary of Silver City, was conducted by the Rev Horton Erwin at 2 p.m Saturday in the Baptist Church in Reserve. Burial was made in Apache Creek Cemetery.

CRAWFORD: Mrs.E.C.Johnson, Mrs R A.Herring and Mrs. Margaret Jones of Silver City were called to Kermit, Texas Saturday by the death of their sister Mrs Ruth Crawford. Funeral services and burial took place Monday at Kermit

JOHNSON: Mrs. E. Dana Johnson, the former Mary Eckles of Silver City, for many years a prominent educator and the widow of a well known editor of the Santa Fe New Mexican, died in a Santa Fe hospital Oct. 9. She had been in poor health for a long time. Her husband, a famed western editor who headed the New Mexican for more than a quarter of a' century when it was owned by U.S. Sen. Bronson M. Cutting, died in the late 1930s. Mrs. Johnson was born at Newcastle, Del., and brought by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel H. Eckles, to Silver City as a child in 1888. She was schooled at Silver City and at the Teachers' College here, later taking further training at Columbia University, New York. Returning to Silver City, she was placed in charge of teacher training at the college and during her 25 years in that position taught many people who since have become leading educators of the state. She subsequently became school superintendent for the Hurley school system, which included the school at Santa Rita. She and Johnson were married in 1931. Mrs. Johnson leaves one sister, Miss Isabella Lancaster Eckles, Santa Fe, a former state school superintendent and former Santa Fe city superintendent. A brother, Dr. Samuel H. Eckles, died at Tucson in 1937. Funeral services were held at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Faith in Santa Fe. The services were conducted by Bishop James C. Kinsolving II, the Rev. Henry J. JOHNSON: Mrs. Inez Williams Johnson, 45, Hurley, who died of carbon monoxide poisoning last Saturday, will be buried in Colorado Springs, Colo. Today. Mrs. Johnson had been a resident of Hurley for eight and one half years. Funeral arrangements were made by Cox Mortuary.

JOHNSON: Mrs. John F. Johnson, 79, passed away Tuesday morning about nine o'clock. Mrs Johnson was born Dixie Herring, daughter of William and Betty (Bailey) Herring, June 2, 1879, near Lampasas, Tex. She married Mr. Johnson in 1900 and moved to New Mexico in 1904 and livèd all her married life on a ranch east of Silver City near the Rosedale Dairy They were the parents of two children, a son, Harvey, and one daughter, Eva. Mr. Johnson died in 1948 after which Mrs. Johnson moved to Silver City. Mrs. Johnson was in charge of the Hillcrest Hospital kitchen from 1949 to 1954 and was well liked by all who knew her. She was a member of the Silver City Baptist Church during all the years she lived here and an active participant in all church departments, and a favorite of her associates. She was a woman of great fineness of character and lovableness and a fine example of Christian loyalties and traits. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Eva Crawford; Silver City; a granddaughter, Mrs. A. C. Wolfe, and three grandsons of American Fork, Utah, and by two sisters, Mrs. William Nicol, Dallas, and Mrs. J. B. Patterson, Port Worth. Funeral services will be held his afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Baptist Church, the Rev. Clarence Crow officiating. Burial viii take place in the Masonic cemetery.

JOHNSON: Robert Thompson of Tyrone received word this week of the death of her sister, Mrs. Kate L. Johnson, which occurred March l5 at her home in San Francisco. Mrs Johnson formerly lived in Silver City and was widely known in Grant County, coming here from San Antonio in 1888. In 1896 she moved to San Francisco where she made her home until her death. Survivors, in addition to Mr. Thompson, are three sisters, Miss Nettle B. Thompson of Tyrone; Mrs. Florence T. Beverson, of Bronxville, N. Y.; Mrs. Edith T. Brand of Tyrone and a niece, Mrs. George A. Brown of Burlingame, Calif.

JOHNSON: Mrs Lillie Johnson, 73, member of a pioneer family of Grant County, died Sunday in the Deming hospital, following a long illness. She was born on the Mimbres River in 1889 and moved to Deming two years ago. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Wheeler Mortuary chapel at Deming. The rites were conducted by the Rev. Harold E. Johnson, pastor of the Santa Rita Community Church. Burial was in Mountain View cemetery. Surviving are her husband, G. H. Johnson of Deming; two sons, Ray, of Wilcox, Ariz., and Herbert, of Deming; three daughters, Mrs. Calvin Hickson of Silver City, Mrs. Robert Booth, Vanadium, and Mrs. Johnnle Liggett, Albuquerque; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one brother and four sisters.

JOHNSON: Private family funeral services for Mrs Matha Johnson who died Dec 29 in El Paso were held in the Curtis Bright funeral chapel Monday at 2pm with the Rev C M Henderson officiating. Cremation will follow and internment later in the family plot in the Masonic cemetery. Mrs Johnson was a retired schoolteacher of the Silver City Consolidated School System and a native of Silver City. Survivors are her son Dr Donald Johnson of Lubbock TX, two grandchildren and a brother Douglas While of Silver City. The family asked that memorials be sent to the Public Library.

JOHNSON: Mrs. Nellie D. Johnson 75, a resident of New, Mexico for 58 years and of Silver City for three years, passed away last Thursday. The widow of Asa. A. Johnson, she is survived by two stepdaughters, one stepson, and nine step-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday at 4 p.m. in chapel of the Curtis Mortuary with the Rev. Dan Loomis officiating. Internment was in Memory Lane Cemetery.

JOHNSON: Mrs. Gertrude Olivia Johnson, 26, died last Thursday night in Hillcrest General Hospital. She was a resident of Bayard. Surviving are her husband, Eugene . Johnson, Bayárd; a daughter, Linda Belle a son, Clayton Lynn; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Winn, Big Spring, Tex.; a brother, Jackie Lee Winn, Big Spring; a sister, Mrs. Jimmie Myers, Tyrone. She was the daughter-in-law of the Rev. Harold E. Johnson of Santa Rita. Funeral services were held at the Cox Mortuary chapel Saturday at 2 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Arthur Bomers, of the Community Church, Hurley. Interment was in the Silver City cemetery.

JOHNSON: Funeral services for Ovid Charles Johnson, killed in the accident, which resulted in the death of Mr. McKenzie, will be held in Trinidad, Colo, this afternoon. Cox Mortuary shipped the body to Trinidad Tuesday. Surviving Mr. Johnson are two daughters, Mary Olive, 15,and Clara Nell, 14; two sons, William of Silver City and Paul, who is in the navy; a sister, Mrs. Gratice Lamb of Denver. Mr. Johnson's wife died several years ago in Trinidad.

JOHNSON: Word has been received here that Thomas (Buck) Johnson, a one-time resident of Grant County, was1killcd Saturday in a mine explosion in Duncan, Arizona. He was born in 1891 in Phoenix. For the past several years he has been engaged in mining but previous to that he was a peace officer in and around Duncan. He is survived by his wife, Ethel, a son, William, a daughter, Joe June Sciow, his mother, Mrs. Sarah Heron, two brothers and four sisters.

JOHNSON: Vonnie Louise Johnson, 66, of Mule Creek passed away Monday, March 2 at Gila Regional Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. Graveside funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the Duncan City Cemetery in Duncan, Ariz., with Floyd Robertson officiating. Interment will be in the Duncan City Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson was born March 7, 1931, in Clifton, Ariz., to Arch Fulcher and Meda Wilkinson Fulcher. She married Gene Johnson on Sept. 15, 1948, and they made their home on a ranch in Mule Creek She is survived by her husband Gene, a son, buddy, and his wife, Merrie Nell, of Mule Creek; a daughter, Tammy Cooper of Silver City; two sisters, Emma Lou Davis of Willcox, Ariz., and Montie Frye Lackey of Las Cruces; a brother, Tommy Fulcher of, Superior, Ariz.; three grandsons, Kenny Johnson of Mangus, Randy Johnson and his wife, Stacey, of Tyrone, and Coye Cooper of Silver City;one granddaughter, Talissa Cooper of Silver City; two great-grandsons, Trae Johnson and Garrett,. Johnson; One great-granddaughter, Tera Johnson, and her stepfather and stepmother, T.J. and Nadine Price of Duncan; and four nephews, Russell Mahoney, Justin Yarbrough, Jason Yarbrough and Jared Lackey. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Johnson was a very talented, fun-loving woman and she filled her life with a variety of interests, including painting, square dancing, playing volleyball, making crafts and writing short stories. She was a helpmate to her husband for 49 years, a loving mother, and a caring neighbor and a friend to all of her community. She was a school bus driver and a mail carrier. She held a postmistress position at Mule 'Creek for 20 years until her retirement in 1992. She will be remembered always for her unending willingness to do anything for anyone, and her quick wit and her wonderful sense of humor that prevailed even throughall the pain. Pallbearers will be Kenny Johnson, Randy Johnson, Coye COoper, Russell Mahoney, Delroy Kartchner and Clint Kartchncr. JOHNSON; Vivian B. Johnson, 81, passed away Jan. 17 in Silver City. She was born In Oklahoma March 12, 19O3 to George Burt and Millie Fears Burt. Mrs. Johnson Is survived by a niece, Mrs. Jean Stevens of Lubbock, Texas; three nephews, Richard Burt of Palm Springs, Calif., George Burt of Ganado, Texas, and Raymond Burt of Wichita Falls, Texas. She had resided in Silver City for about 48 years and was a member of the Church of Christ. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2p.m. at the Curtis-Bright chapel. Interment will follow at a later date. Arrangements are by the Curtis-Bright Funeral Home.

JOHNSON: Funeral services were held the past week at Glenwood for William J. Johnson, a ranch worker of the Glenwood Alma area, who died Jan. 19 at Alma. Burial was under the direction of the Curtis Mortuary.
Johnson: Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at the Cox Mortuary Chapel at 10:30 a.m. for the late John Johnson, resident of Silver City for the past 35 years. Mr. Johnson passed away Friday, Dec. 14 at the age of 82. A coroner's jury ruled the death was from nautral causes. He was found dead.

JOHNSON: Allan L. Johnson, 58, died Sunday in a Dallas hospital. He was a former resident of Silver City in the 1970s. Survivors include two sons, Allan Johnson Jr. of Garland, Texas, and Donald Johnson of Dallas; and one daughter, Jeorgiann Laine of Mesquite, Texas. Graveside services were today at 1 p.m. in the Garland Memorial Park Cemetery in Garland. The Williams Funeral Home of Garland was in charge of arrangements.

trAMMELL: Alta Hawkins Trammell, died Monday in Silver City. Mrs. Trammell has been a resident of Buckhorn since 1931. She was a member of the Church of Christ of Cliff, the American Association of Retired Persons, and was a retired postmaster. She is survived by a son, Donald Trammell of Silver City; three daughters, Mary Roeschke of Cedar Crest, N.M., Doris Peterson of Gilbert, Ariz., and Jeanne Barlow of Cortez, Colo; two sisters, Nina Ivy Dart of Hartford, Ark; three brothers, Vance Hawkins of Silver City, Robert Hawkins of Buckhorn and Benjamin Hawkins of Aspermont, Texas; seven stepchildren, Donna Archibald of Billings, Mont., Mildred Peterson of Wellton, Ariz., Lorayne Harris of Sandy, Utah, Alene Christensen of Blackfoot, Idaho, Karen Swedsen of Springville, Utah, Kay Johnson of Las Vegas, Nev., and Terry Johnson with the U.S. Air Force; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. until noon at the Gila Baptist Church. Services will follow at 1 p.m. Wednesday with interment at the Cliff-Gila Mesa Cemery. Harold Norris will officiate. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Kenneth York, Fred Roeschke, Kevin Barlow, Michael York, Erich Roestchke and Byron Trammell. Honorary pallbearers will be Ignacil Nolasco, Jamie Otteson and Pat Lowe. Arrangements are with the Wheeler Funeral Home.

JOHNSON: Funeral services for Carl Ferrell Johnson, who died March 6, were held Monday afternoon with burial at the old JacksonCemetery near Buckhorn, N.M. Mr. Johnson was born in Chanute, Okla., June 20, 1902. He is survived by four sisters, Miss Apha Johnson of Morenci, Ariz., Mrs. Mempal Hudson of Thatcher, Ariz., Mrs. Molly George of Gallup, N.M. and Mrs. Ethel Malone, Long Beach, Calif. In addition there are two brothers, John Johnson ofGallup, N.M. and Wh.J. Johnson, Glenwood, N.M.; a daughter, Miss Leona Johnson of Flagstaff, Ariz.; and a stepdaughter, Virginia Williams, Saunders, Ariz. The Cox Mortuary was in charge of funeral arrangements.

JOHNSON: Dorothy M. Johnson, 76, of Glenwood, died Wednesday in Albuquerque after a long illness with leukemia. She is survived byher husband, Herman L. Johnson of Glenwood; one daughter, Karen Kellerof Albuquerque; two granddaughters, Nennette and Joahna; and one brother, Jack Duniho. Memorial Services will be in the Community Presbyterian Church in Glenwood at two p.m. Saturday.

JOHNSON: Eda Johnson, 92, passed away Jan. 30 at Las Animas, Colo.She was born on a farm near Rockham, S.D., on Feb. 10, 1896. After attending school there, she obtained employment in Conde, S.D. She attended a nursing school in Watertown, S.D., and on Sept. 15,1920, married Harold Johnson, a farmer. A son, Carroll Eugene, was born Nov. 13, 1921. Leaving the farm in 1923, the family for several years lived in Conde where Mr. Johnson taught school. Due to Mr. Johnson's poor health, the family moved to Hill City, S.D., where he served as pastor of the Congregational Church. He was advised to seek a higher, drier climate and the family then moved to Albuquerque. During World War II, Mr. Johnson joined the American Red Cross as a field director and Eugene Johnson was inducted into the U.S. Army. In 1929, the family moved to Santa Rita where Mr. Johnson served as pastor of the community church. Mrs. Johnson obtained work in El Paso, Texas, while her son was stationed at Fort Bliss. When he was transferred to Fort Lewis, Wash., she obtained work nearby. Due to ill health, Eugene Johnson was discharged from the service and the family again moved to Albuquerque where Harold Johnson was the field director at Kirland Air Force Base. Mrs. Johnson was employed in various areas of Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico as a practical nurse. Eugene Johnson's health caused him to enter several veterans' hospitals and she was able to find employment nearby. The younger Johnson's last move was to the veterans' hospital in Las Animas. Mrs. Johnson lived in Las Animas and remained there following her son's death a number of years ago. There are three grandchildren, Linda Torkelson of Liberal, Kan., Clayton Johnson of Silver City; and Jamie Estrada of San Diego, Calif.; and seven great-grandchildren, Jimmy, Luci and John Torkelson, Joy and Seth Johnson, and Joe and April Estrada. Interment was in Las Animas on Feb. 3 following private services.

JOHNSON: Ernes Cecil Johnson, Jr., 32, of Houston, Texas, a son of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Johnson of Bayard, was killed last Saturday in a highway accident near Waco, Texas. Funeral services were held in Silver City at 4 p. m. Tuesday at the Cox Morturay chapel, the Rev. Richard Akers of the Bayard Methodist church officiating. Burial was in the Masonic cemetery. Surviving are his parents; a son, Ernest Cecil III; and a sister, Mrs. Fred Thomas of Silver City.

JOHNSON: Former longtime Silver City resident Ernest C. "Jack” Johnson, 89, died Tuesday in the Sierra Vista Hospital in Truth or Consequences. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be Friday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of French Mortuary in Truth or Consequences with Dr. W.C. Stephens officiating. Survivors include his son, Lt. E.C. "Buzz" Johnson III of Barbers Point, Hawaii; a son-in-law, Fred Thomas of Elephant Butte; a sister, Leola Buckner of Siler City, N.C.; and 2 grandchildren, Tracy Thomas of Bayard and Renee Robinson of San Diego, Calif. He lived in Elephant Butte the past three years, and prior to that he lived in Silver City and was a retired storekeeper with Kennecott for 40 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Johnson. French Mortuary of Truth or Consequences is in charge of arrangements.

JOHNSON: Floyce Johnson, 73, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, while vacationing in the Silver City area. She was born Dec. 27, 1917, in Oklahoma to Gus and Sadie Peterson. Sheis survived by her husband, Frank Johnson of Amarillo. Funeral services were to be held today in Amarillo, where burial was in the Memory Gardens Cemetery. Local arrangements were by Curtis-Bright Funeral Home.

JOHNSON: Gilda Louise Johnson, 40, died Oct. 14 at her residence in Roswell following an illness. She was born in Roswell on Sept. 27, 1949, was once a librarian and secretary for the Stout Intermediate School in Silver City, and had been a resident of Roswell for one year. She is survived by her husband, Travis Johnson of Roswell; her mother, Priscilla Peterson, and a stepfather, Pete, both of Roswell; three sisters, Holly Romero, Rosie Romero and Dorothy Armstrong, all of Roswell; two nephews, Shane M. Armstrong and Troy Armstrong, both of Roswell; and one great-nephew, Shane Anthony Armstrong, also of Roswell. Rosary will be tonight at 7 in the LaGrone Funeral Chapel in Roswell followed by Mass Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Catholic Churchin Roswell. Burial will follow in South Park Cemetery in Roswell. Arrangements are by LaGrone Funeral Chapel.

JOHNSON: H.A. "Bob" Johnson, 62, a forner Silver City resident, died Wednesday at his home in Riverside, Calif. He was the son of Lucy Johnson of Silver City. Services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Garden of Prayer Mortuary in Riverside. Mr. Johnson was a former magistrate judge in Silver City.

JOHNSON: Funeral services for Mrs. Ivan L. Johnson, who died at noon Friday, October 29, in Southwestern General hospital, following an operation, were held Sunday at 2:30 PM in Deming. Mrs. Johnson, wife of Ivan L. Johnson, assistant secretary and chief clerk at the Peru mining Co., was the daughter of Mr and Mrs. V.V. Carns of Silver City. Surviving her, besides her husband, are two daughters, Mrs. Joe Phillips of Bayard and Mrs. Jack Carter of Deming.

JOHNSON: J.E. Johnson died when fire destroyed his home in Glenwood on Monday. The fire was reported about 5:30 a.m. and fire-fighting units from Glenwood fought the blaze. A coroner’s inquest held before Justice of the Peace Wayne Reynolds ruled that the fire started in Johnson's bedroom. Sgt. Walter Johnson, a son of Mr. Johnson, was in the home at the time of the blaze, but escaped injury. Mr. Johnson was reportedly found dead in his bed after the blaze was discovered by a neighbor, Orville Spooner. Funeral services and burial took place in Glenwood. Survivors besides his son, Walter are another son, Julian, of Seal Beach, CA. and a daughter, who lives in California.

JOHNSON: John W. Johnson, 69, died Monday Aug. 31 at his residence in Silver City. Mr. Johnson was retired from the United States Navy, where he served many years in the Far East and Guam, as an Electrician. He was a member of the Silver City Elks Lodge.Mr. Johnson is survived locally by his wife, A-Pi Lin, formerly of Guam. Funeral services were held Friday in Weir, Kansas at the Naylor Funeral Home. JOHNSON: Lawrence H. Johnson, 83, died Monday evening at Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 18, 1906, in Tularosa. He was a laborer in a sawmill and a marble quarry and was a veteran of World War II. He had been a resident of Silver City for the past 35 years and was a member of the Catholic Church. Rosary services will be held Thursday evening at 7 in the Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel and Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 10 in St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in Tularosa. Concluding services will follow in the Tularosa Cemetery. The Rev. Nevin Ford will officiate. Survivors are his wife, Consuelo G. Johnson of Silver City; a daughter, Corina J. Palmer of Eugene, Ore.; a brother, John Johnson of Alamogordo; a sister, Emmia J. Garcia of Alamogordo; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. JOHNSON: Mrs. Lula D. Johnson, 66, died at Hillcrest Hospital Tuesday evening following a brief illness. She was a native of Monticello, N.M. and had lived in Grant County for the past 32 years. She is survived by her husband Pete; one daughter, Sandra Farmer of El Paso; one sister, Effie Chapin of Bayard, and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Clifton M. Henderson officiating.

JOHNSON: Maretta "Jane" Johnson, 71, died Saturday morning, July 23, at home in Albuquerque after an extended illness. Jane was born on July 1, 1917, in Braymer, Mo. She is survived by two daughters, Jane Shipp of Albuquerque and Dixie Lynn Johnson of Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren, David Dabau and Kristan Shipp of Albuquerque, Jo-Lynne Jakob of Lubbock, Texas, and Patrick S. Shipp of Griffiss Air Force Base, New York; one great-grandchild, Michael J. Dabau of Tucumcari; one sister, Helen Kitzmiller of Albuquerque; and one brother, Ed Woolsey of Independence, Mo. She worked for the Silver City Ranger District of the U.S. Forest Service for two years; was a volunteer at the Fort Bayard Medical Center; and had many friends in Silver City. Her family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions in her name be sent to the Hospice program in Albuquerque. Contributions will be used for the purpose of providing literature and materials for other Albuquerque Hospice patients and their families. Cremation was at Vista Verde Memorial Park. JOHNSON: Marjorie M. Johnson, 77, a retired librarian and residentof Silver City, entered into rest Saturday at her residence. She was born to the late Walter Wellington and Marjorie T. (Hall) Hughes. She was of the Methodist faith. Survivors include her daughters, Annelee Donnelly of Fargo, N.D. and Jean McCulla of Fort Collins, Colo.; her brother, John Hughes of Fond du lac, Wis., and her sisters, Anne Luckman of Mercer Island, Wash., and Eleanor Reagin of Greeley, Colo. JOHNSON: Mrs. Maude Johnson, mother of Richard C. Johnson of Silver City, died Monday in a hospital at Las Vegas, where she had been under treatment. Richard Johnson and his wife have been with his mother during her recent illness. Funeral services for the deceased and burial took place in Las Vegas.

JOHNSON: Minnie R. Johnson, 93, a resident of Silver City since 1930, entered life eternal Monday at Hacienda de Salud. She was born Jan. 28, 1899, to James and Susie Roe in Meredian, Miss. She earned a teaching degree at State Teachers College in Denton, Texas, and began teaching in a one-room country school. In 1920, she married in New Boston, Texas, to George T. Johnson, who preceded her in death in 1952. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the First Baptist Church, Silver City Woman's Club, and Green Thumb Garden Club. She was a homemaker. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10 at Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels with the Rev. Jesse Liles officiating. Burial will follow at the Masonic Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. Survivors include her daughter, Helen J. Lundwall, and her husband, Lee of Silver City; and a granddaughter, Linda Brake, and her husband, Thomas, of Los Alamos. Casket bearers will be Maurice Conner, Dale Rogers, Thayne Peters, Ollie McCrary, Clyde Morris and George McDermott. JOHNSON: Raymond K. Johnson, 79, died Sunday, May 20, in Hillcrest General Hospital. Mr. Johnson was born in Wilford Idaho and was a long time resident of Grant County, where he owned and operated his own farm near Buckhorn. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alta Johnson of Buckhorn, five daughters, Donna Archibald of Michigan, Alene Christensen of Idaho, Mildred Peterson of Arizona, Lorayne Harris and Karen Swendsen both of Utah, two sons, Ray L. Johnson of Idaho, Theron R. Johnson of Camp Travis, Calif., one stepson, three stepdaughters and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., today, Thursday, May 24, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Gila, Burial will follow in the Mesa Cemetery in Gila.

JOHNSON: Robert O. Johnson, 56, who had been a resident of Hurley for the past 15 years, died Saturday morning at Hillcrest General Hospital from injuries received in an auto accident at North Hurley on May 23. He had been employed as a machinist for Kennecott Copper Corp. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Cox Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. A.L. Hinkston of the First Baptist Church of Hurley officiating. The body was then shipped to Pueblo, Colo. for burial at the Roselawn cemetery. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Tellie Johnson, Temple, Colo., and by two brothers, Lloyd C. of Detroit and Alvin of Colorado Springs.

JOHNSON: Memorial services for Roy Allen Johnson, 73, who passed away Sunday at his residence in Virden, were held Thursday at the First Southern Baptist Church of Duncan, Ariz., with Pastor James Crouch officiating. Mr. Johnson was born in Virden, to George and Alma Johnson. He spent his childhood in the Virden and Duncan area. He attended school at Duncan and two years of college in Portales. He met Betty Allan and they were married in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the service, he worked in construction and farming until he retired in 1976, and spent the rest of his life in Virden. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by a son, Allan Johnson. He is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Clark of California and Marcia Chambers of Virden; one daughter-in-law, Cynthia Johnson of California; one sister, Fannie Wilkinson of Silver City; two brothers, Ralph Johnson of Virden and Gene Johnson of Mule Creek; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Arrangements were under the direction of Caldwell Funeral Home of Safford, Ariz.

JOHNSON: William Edwin Johnson, 82, a resident of Silver City, passed away Monday at the Homestead Adult Shelter. He was born Oct. 19, 1911, to Albert Sydney and Ida May (Brown) Johnson in Sutherland, Texas. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. Mr. Johnson enjoyed the Bible and prayed daily. He married Georgia Maria Pennington on Jan. 14, 1936, in Silver City. Mr. Johnson began his business career with Pennington Wholesale. He later owned and operated the Broadway Market and Builders Supply. He was a building contractor. He built the old Furr's Building, the Messiah Lutheran Church on Swan Street and many homes in Silver City. He was known by the Grant County community as Mr. Ed, the owner and operator of the original Mr. Ed's Hardware Store. In 1967, he began breeding Arabian horses, selling them in Mexico, Canada, and throughout the United States. When he retired from the horse business in 1985, he had 40 horses. He also raised beagles. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Georgia Johnson of Silver City; two daughters, Sharon Stuart of Dallas, and Sue Ann Reynolds and her husband Chandler, also of Dallas; three grandchildren, Beverly Barr of Midland Texas, Shelly Friederichsen and her husband, Dave of Silver City, and Guy Prevost Of Las Cruces; and three great grandchildren, Kristen Barr, of Midland, Texas, Brandon Barr, also of Midland.

JOHNSON: Dr. Woodford Eugene (Woody) Johnson, 62, died early Friday, June 27, in Hurley Hospital, Flint, Mich., following an extended illness. Dr. Johnson was born in Muncie, the son of Woodford and Margaret (King) Johson. He graduated from Central High School in 1936 and received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Ball State University. Dr. Johnson received his PhD. from Columbia University and taught at Western New Mexico University for over 30 years, where he was head of  the Art Dept. He started his teaching career in Sharpsville, Ind., and later taught at Boy's Country Day School in New York. Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Cecil (Mildred) Moyer of Kokomo, Ind., Mrs. William (Agatha) Meranda of Goodrich, Mich., one brother, William Johnson of Muncie, Ind., and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday from Meeks Mortuary in Muncie. Interment followed at Elm Ridge Cemetery after a brief memorial service.

JOHNSON: Emma Dora Johnson, 86, passed away Friday at Fort Bayard Medical Center.She was born in Mazomanie, Wis., on May 16, 1909. Her family, Mr. and Mrs. HerbertJohnson, and eight children moved to their farm near Conde, S.D., in 1916. She graduated from high school in 1926. After attending Northern State Teachers College in Abelleen, S.D., for two years, she taught in rural schools for seven years. An opportunity to teach in New Mexico was offered, and in 1935 she accepted a position in Santa Rita. She taught at Hurley elementary and junior high schools before going to teach at Cobre High School. In all, she taught 43 years. In1973, she was voted to become a member of the Hall of Fame of the National Education Association in southwest New Mexico. In addition to attending college in South Dakota, shereceived a degree from the University of New Mexico and Western New Mexico University. Shebelonged to the Valley Community Church, the American Association of Retired Teachers, and the American Association óf Retired Persons. After retiring in 1971, she lived in Arenas Valley, enjoying her church work at Valley Community Church, formerly pastored by her brother, Harold E. Johnson. She is survived by her brother, Floyd Johnson, and his wife, Ruth, of Spring Valley, Calif.; her grand-nephew, Clayton Johnson, and his wife, Marcia, and their children, Joyand Seth Johnson, all of Silver City; and one grand-niece, Linda Torkelson of Liberal, Kan. Shewas preceded in death by her sister, Hilda Clemensen, and her brothers, Harold and Stanley Johnson. At her request, cremation has taken place with Mimbres Crematory and a prayer vigil will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Bacas Fuueral Chapels. The memorial Mass will be celelebrated at 3 the same day at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Rod Nichols officiating. Burial of cremains will follow at memory Lane Cemetery. JOHNSTON: Karen Lucille Johnston, 38, died Friday morning at her residence in Glenwood. Mrs. Johnston was born in Chama, but had been a longtime resident of Catron County. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Johnston is survived by her husband Bobbie Johnston of Glen wood; two daughters, Anne and Darlene Johnston both of Glenwood; one Son, Scott Johnston of Glenwood; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. JOHNSTON; Alexander Wilson, Johnston, 72, died Jan. 23 at his home in Gila. Mr. Johnston was born the son of Edward Blair and Catherine Hunt Johnston on Dec. 5, 1909 in New York, N.Y., and had been a resident of Grant County since 1973. He is survived by his wife, Leone Johnston of Portland, Ore; three sisters, Roberta Johnston of New York, N.Y., Madeline McGowan of Nova Scotia, Canada, and Geraldine Greenwood of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; three brothers, Walter Johnston of British Columbia, Canada, Arthur Johnston and Wilbur Johnston, both of Nova Scotia, Canada. JOHNSTON: Allen W. Johnston, 84, of Silver City passed away Saturday at Gila Regional Medical Center. Mr. Johnston was born March 21, 1908, in Limestone, Pa., to Glen and Mae (Wagner) Johnston. He had been a Grant County resident for the past 25 years and was a heavy-equipment operator. He is survived by his wife, Hazel (Miller) Johnston of Silver City, and several nieces and nephews. JOHNSTON: Hazel M. Johnston, 84, a Silver City resident since 1967, passed away Monday at her home. She was born July 15, 1910 to William A. and Rosalee (McBride) Miller in Riverton, Ill. She married Allen Johnston on Oct. 16, 1946 in Sioux City, Iowa. She is survived by a close friend, Shirley N. Crevasse of El Paso, Texas and many other friends in the Silver City area. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Johnston on May 16, 1992. No services are planned at this time. All arrangements are by Curtis-Bright Funeral Home.

JOHNSTON: Jesse B. "Red" Johnston, 80, a Silver City resident, died Tuesday morning at Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born Feb. 10, 1916, in Pawhuska, Okla., to Jesse C. and Rosa Lee Johnston. Mr. Johnston was a master mechanic. He worked at Harris Motors, Heaston Langandorf Motors and Skillman Motors in Silver City. While residing in Raton, he operated Red's Auto Service for several years. He had a wonderful sense of humor and had a funny story for every occasion. He was a kind, humble man who loved his family and his many friends, and enjoyed doing things for them. He will be sadly missed by his wife and all his family and many friends. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Genevieve. He is also survived by his Sons, Jesse Johnston of Questa and John Douglas Johnston of Hayward, Calif.; his sisters, Alice Guinn and her husband, Bill, of Burbank, Calif., and Lenora Friar of Bakersfield, Calif.; a brother, Floyd Johnston, and his wife, Kathryn of Tulsa OK and six grandchildren, Sheri Johnston, Dodie McVetty, David Johnston, Neteri Reynolds, Emalee Flynn and Jessica Johnston. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren; and two nieces, Val Bustillos, Annette Houtz. Visitation will begin at 5 this evening at the Curtis-Bright Funeral Home chapel. A prayer vigil will be held there at 7. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Rod Garvey officiating. JOHNSTON: Robert G. Johnston, 75, died Sunday, July 15, in Ft. Bayard Medical Center. Mr. Johnston was born in Wintervillle, North Carolina, and moved ot Las Cruces in 1936 where in later years, with his wife Cecile, he owned and operated Johnstons Hardware. Mr. Johnston served four years with the Army in World War II taking part in the Aleutian and Rhineland Campaigns. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cecile B. Johnston of Las Cruces, a sister, Jallie Jaohnston and a brother, Ambrose Johnston both of Kingston, North Carolina.

JOHNSTONE: Ruth B Johnstone, 87, a resident of San Lorenzo, entered eternal rest Monday. She was born Aug. 4. 1909 to Ed and Clara Weaver. JOJOLA: Teofilo Jojola, 69, died Wednesdav at Fort Bayard Medical center. Mr Jujola was a resident of Albuquerque, and a sheet metal worker by trade. JOJOLA: Herman P Jojola, age 64, of Silver City, died Wednesday June 3, 1981 in Ft. Bayard Medical Center. He was born May 15, 1917 in Palomas, New Mexico, the son of Ysabel and Ysabelita Perera Jojola and had resided in Silver City for over a year. He had worked for a construction firm and was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Truth or Consequences, NM. He is survived by four sisters; Lillie Cabazos of Silver City with whom he resided, Veronica Bargas of Oakland, Cal., Teresa Orosco and Delfina Jojola both of Tucson, Ariz. He was preceded in deathby a brother Rumaldo Jojola in 1980. Mr. Jojola was taken to the French Mortuary, 304 Cedar, T or C where services were pending.

JOLLY: Ina Beth Jolly, 76, entered into eternal rest Monday, June 5, at her home in the Mimbres Valley. She was born July 1, 1923, in Columbus. She spent her childhood in Mexico on a family cattle ranch and then moved to Deming, where she and John Jolly were married Aug. 11, 1939. They moved to El Paso, Texas, in 1943. Mrs. Jolly graduated from nursing school in 1955 as a licensed vocational nurse, and purchased a nursing home in Ysleta, Texas, in 1960. When her husband retired from the El Paso Fire Department in 1964, they began to travel in their motor home to points of interest. During those years they lived in Montana, Oregon, Arizona, California and Arkansas. Mrs. Jolly lived in the Mimbres for three years. Visitation will be from 9:30- 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Baca's Funeral Chapels with funeral services beginning at 10:30. Interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, John; a daughter, Gail Jolly Ligon, and her husband, the Rev. Walt Ligon, of St. Louis; a brother, Bill Alley, and wife, Anita, of San Diego; four grandchildren, Lynda Ligon Thompson and her husband, Mark, of Dallas, Lonnie Ligon of Macon, Ga., Lori Ligon Shelby and her husband, Steve, of St. Louis, and John Jolly III of El Paso; nine great-grandchildren, Ryan, Jordan and Sydney Thompson, Walt "Tres" III and Landon of Chicago, and Alyssa, Grant, Jake and nieces and nephews across the United States. Preceding her in death were her parents, Howard and Ina Elizabeth Yarbrough Alley; two daughters, Joyce Ann and Janet Pauline Jolly; and a son, John Neal Jolly II. The Jolly and Ligon family’s expressed their sincere thanks for the love and care that was given so graciously and kindly to Mr. and Mrs. Jolly and family members during her illness. JOLLY: Rohn E. Jolly passed away Sunday, April ?4, in Alabama. He was born Aug. 17, 1947, in Santa. Rosa, Calif. He came to New Mexico in 1950. He was raised in Grant County and lived in the area off and on. He is survived by his wife, Maryann, and one daughter, Maria, of Oxford, Ala.; one son, David, and wife, Jamie, of Fort Bragg, Calif.; three grandchildren; his mother, Anita Jolly of Silver City; one brother, Roger Jolly, and wife, Rhonda, of Buckhorn; two sisters, Rebecca Jolly of Silver City, and Roberta Bo- mar and husband, Cleatus, of Taft, Calif.; two nephews; four nieces; five aunts; and numerous cousins. A memorial service was held at Fort McClellan, Ala., with full military honors and a 21- gun salute. At his request, he was cremated and his ashes scattered in the Burro Mountains. He will be missed by his family and friends.

JOLLY: Jack T. Jolly, 92, a resident of Silver City entered into rest Tuesday at Fort Bayard Medical center. He was born Dec. 4 1903, in El Dorado, Texas to William C. and Martha B. Brantley Jolly. He came tO the SilverCity area in 1950 and was a rancher and trapper. He enoyed playing the fiddle. On July 13, 1991 he was inducted into the New Mexico Trappers Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife Anita Jolly of Silver City; his sons, Rohn Jolly and his wife, Mary Ann, of Oxford, A1a., and Roger Jolly and his wife, Rhonda, of Buckhorn; his daughters Rebecca Jolly ot Silver City and `Roberta Bomar and her husband, C1eatus of Bakersfield, Calif.;a brother, Grady Jolly, and his wife. Bessei of Midland, Texas; a sister, Dorothy Sharp of Anahiem, Ca1if; eightgrandchildren William Jolly, Kallie Jolly3 Clint Jolly Robin Jolly. Maria Jolly, Anita Johnson, Valarie Harvey andDavid Feretti; and five greai-grandchildren Kyhe and Kelly FeretiL Steven Johnson and Alex and Allison Harvey. JONES: Tammie Marie Jones, 17, a resident of Silver City, died Saturday morning in an automobile accident. She was born Nov. 7, 1972, in Silver City, and was a lifelong resident. At the time of her death, she was attending Cliff High School where she was a junior class officer; was a cheerleader; and was a member of the Future Farmers of America. JONES: Aria P. Jones, 50, died at Hillcrest Hospital June 28 following a brief illness. Mr. Jones was a Native of Santa Rosa, and had lived in Grant County for the past five years. JONES: Cecil P. Jones, 59, passed away at her home in Silver City, Saturday, after an illness. He was a member of the True Baptist Church of Cuervo and had been employed as a heavy equipment Operator for James Hamilton Construction for the past ten years. He was a Veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Udania of Silver City; a son, Steven Cecil Jones of Silver City; a daughter, Susan U. Lain of Silver City: two grandchildren, Brian and Bradley Lain of Silver City; eight sisters, Lee Wood of Corvaus, Mont., Ola Yates and Katy Reeves of Victor, Mont., Vivian Priddy of Oceanside, Calif., Myrtle Roydstun of Anadarko, Okla., Jackie Brown of Tucumcari, Mary Horn of Snyder, Texas, and Billie Starrett of Silver City; and two brothers, Arda Jones of Benson, Ariz., and John L. Jones of Oklahoma City, Okla. Pallbearers will be all his nephews, Larry Brown, ,Johnny Jones, Dan Jones, Richard ,Jones, Jerry 1Jones and Alan Brown. Honorary palbearers will be Bobby Mares, Jim Bailey, Richard Cross, Vitory Giacoletti, Carlos Hererra, Hoyt Homes, Cecil Marshall, Archie McGregor and other friends and coworkers. JONES: After a long illness, death claimed Charles H Jones, 53, in Santa Rita hospital Monday. For the past 23 years Mr.Jones had lived at Santa Rita where he waa a contract driller, associated with his son, Paul M. Jones. Born May 30,1893, at Hamilton, Tx, Mr. Jones came to New Mexico as a young man. He is survived by his wife Mrs Margaret Moore Jones, his son Paul; five sisters, Mrs. I. J Franklin, Dallas, Tex.; Mrs. Clark Newton, Fort Worth, Tex.; Mrs. Estine Sadlér, and Mrs. Super Kemp, Hamilton, Tex and Mrs Robert Soling, Canyon. Tx. and five brothers, Cuff Jones, Dallas; W C Jones Armarillo George B.Jones, Hico Tx.; Loy Jones, Plainview Tex., and Frank Jones, Hamilton, Tex. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Cox Mortuary chapel conducted by the Rev S.A. Wright, Community church pastor. The Santa Rita Masonic lodge held its rituals at the gravesite in Santa Rita cemetary.

JONES: Clarence H Jones of Deming died Oct 29 in an El Paso hospital. He was 69. Mr Jones was a retired dispatcher for the Kennecott corp for 30 years. He was a veteran of WWI. Survivors include his widow Mrs Isabel Jones, a daughter Mrs Margarite Brice of Salt Flat, Tx, and a brother Dexter J Jones of West Springfield Mass. Funeral services were held in El Paso with the Rev Harold Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Fort Bliss National cemetery.

JONES: Below is a notice of the death of Clyde Benton Jones carried recently in the Long Beach (Calif.) Press Telegram. Mrs. Jones is a daughter of Geo. H. Utter, pioneer Silver City resident and was graduated from STC. Clyde Benton Jones, 62, of 1061 St. Louis Ave., born at Alton, Mo., died yesterday. He lived for a time in Nev, Mexico and Ariz. He moved to Colton and to Long Beach in 1935. He was a retired probate judge, having served for 14 years at Jerome, Ariz., and then for 12 years at Santa Rita, N. M. He was the first candidate to be initiated into Santa Rita Lodge of Masons, and he belonged to New Mexico Consistory of Scottish Rite at Santa Fe, and Jerome Lodge of Elks. He was a member of the Baptist Church and was a veteran of World War I. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Florence L. Jones a son, Dr. Kenneth C. Jones San Bernardino Ca, Sybil Dell, Kansas City,Mo., and two grandchildren. A Masonic service will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p. m. at the chapel of Mottell's Mortuary.

JONES: David L. Jones, 55, a well-known resident of Reserve, died last Friday. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Reserve Presbyterian Church, the Rev George Sellede, conducting the rites. Burial was in the Reserve cemetery under direction of the Curtis Mortuary. Survivors are three brothers Sidney and Jesse Jones, Reserve, and Howard of Spur Lake and two sisters, Mrs Minnie Ratliff, Douglas, and Mrs. Dottie Sloan Globe, Ariz.

JONES: Dorothy L. Jones, 80, a longtime Lordsburg resident, passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, at Gila Regional Medical Center. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 10 in the morning at the Lordsburg Church of Christ with Pastor Ed Kerr officiating. Internment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. She was born July 13, 1918, in Missouri to Lovell James and Grace Lee Bryan. She was a homemaker and had lived in Lordsburg since 1983. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Tarango, and her husband, Daniel, of Lordsburg; a sister, Bonnie Craig, and her husband, Will, of Chaparral; three grandchildren, Mickey Saenz and her husband. Victor, and Lisa Gandara and her fiancé, Chano Talavera, all of Lordsburg, and Nancy Mon-: toya and her husband, Danny, of Las Cruces; seven great-grandchildren; her nephew, Tim Craig, and his wife, Susan, of El Paso; her niece, Frankie Kerr of Lordsburg; and many friends. JONES: Edward Frank Jones, 54, a World War II veteran and resident of Cliff, died Friday at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Fort Bayard. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Carrie Jones of Alhambra, Calif., and his mother, Mrs. Isabelle Kenney of Cliff. Funeral services were held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Cliff, followed by burial in the Gila Mesa cemetery under, direction of the Wheeler Mortuary of Deming.

JONES; A man registered as Fred V. Jones, was found dead early Wednesday in his room at the Southern Hotel. Investigation by the Police Department and Sheriff's office reveled that Jones came to Silver City about two months ago seeking employment. His home was in Midland Texas, where his family resides. An examination by Dr. Sidney Baker indicated death was caused by pneumonia. Peace Justice Bob Johnson summoned a coroner's jury and an inquest will be concluded Thursday. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Cox Mortuary.

JONES: Hugh Jones, 78, a resident of San Angelo, Texas, formerly of El Paso, Texas, died Saturday, Oct. 9 at San Angelo. A graveside service will be held Tuesday morning at 10 at Memory Lane Cemetery in Silver City with the Rev. David Lay officiating. He was born Oct. 25, 1920, in Shawnec, Okla. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a retired fireman in El Paso. Survivors include his children, Lortta Fay House, Linda Kay Btirk, Barbara Ann Lay, Hugh Arnold Jones, Ernest Henry Vrie- land Jones, John Robert Vrieland, Lillian Florence Whipple, Eddie Rex Vrieland and Virginia Irene Cohh; and a brother, Joseph T. Jones of San Angelo. Bright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
