UEDRO Bedingo Uedro, 55, A truck foreman at the Santa Rita mine of Chino Mines Division, Kennecott Copper Corp. died in Hillcrest General Hospital last Wednesday. He had lived in Grant County all his life and had worked for Chino many years. Rosary services were held Thursday evening at the Santa Rita Catholic church, followed by high mass at 9 a.m. Friday, the Rev. Fr. Pedro Ruiz, officiating Burial took place in the Hanover cemetery, directed by the Cox Mortuary. Surviving are the wife, a step son, Cruz L. Castillo; eight Step daughters, Sister Rita Maria of Illinois; Mrs. Manuela Chavez, Albuquerque; Mrs. Josephine Vallejo, Morenci, Ariz; Mrs. Mary Chavez, Santa Rita; Mrs. D. C. Holland, Bayard; Mrs. V. A. Chacon, Grants, Mrs. Ann Chacon, Mrs. Lupe Morales, Silver City; a brother, Roberto, and a sister, Mrs. Antonia Contreras, Los Angeles.

Udero: Lucy Carbajal Udero, 54, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, in Bayard. Mrs. Udero was a native of Silver City and a lifelong resident of Grant County. She is survived by her husband, Ramon Udero of Bayard, daughter, Dorothy Enriquez of Phoenix, Arizona, three sons, Ronnie C. Guerra and Robert Armijo both of Albuquerque, Dion Udero of Bayard, her father, Pedro O. Carbajal of Tucson, Arizona, two sisters, eight brothers and six grandchildren. Rosary recitation was at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 19, in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, in our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard with the Reverend Father Jesus Espinosa officiating at both services. Burial followed in Memory Lane Cemetery in Silver City. Serving as pallbearers were Rene Carbajal, David Conway, Guillermo Alvarado, Ruben Udero, Fred Gonzales and Tommy Rodriguez.

UDERO: Margarita Puentes Udero, 68, a resident of Ba-yard, passed away at her home Saturday. Visitation will begin at 4 Tuesday afternoon at Baca’s Funeral Chapel with the prayer vigil to follow there that evening a’ 7 led-by Deacon Johnnie Perez. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 10 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with Father Enrique Escalera Lopez officiating. The rite of committal and interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. She was horn Aug. 18, 1928, in Santa Rita to Gilberto Pucntes and Josefa Arivizu and married Antonio Udero on Sept. 24, 1950. in Santa Rita. She was a communicant at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, and had been active in the Cobre Booster Club and as a community volunteer worker at the Bayard Community Center. She was past treasurer of the Bayard Little League. Survivors include her husband, Aitonio Lopez Tono.

Udero of the home; two sons, Tony Udero and wife. Norma, of Albuquerque, and Paul Udero and companion, Julie, of Durango, Cob.; a daughter, Sandra, and husband, Silver Fisher, of Mission Viejo. Calif.; three brothers, Salvador and wife, Sara Puentes, of Bayard, Samuel and wife, Rosemary Puentes, of Las Cruces, and Manuel and wife. Julie Puentes. of’ San Clemente. Calif.; four sisters, Emma and husband. Narciso Eres, of Norwalk. Calif., Lucy and husband, Anastacjo Nuanez, and Erlinda Portillo of Las Cruces, and Lucille Delgado of Bayard; five grandchildren, Calvary and Silver Fisher Jr. Tahnee Udero. Eric Mercado and Jamie Chavez; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew Mercado and Emily Chavez. She was preceded in death by her parents, Heriherto and Josefa Puentes; a brother, Alfredo Puentes; and a sister, Berta Puentes. Serving as pallbearers will he Salvador, Samuel, Manuel and Michael Puentes, and Tony Udero. Entrusted to Baca’s.

Udero: Petra L. Udero, 82, died Monday, April 16, in Hidalgo General Hospital in Lordsburg, Mrs. Udero was a native of Gila, New Mexico, and was a lifelong resident of Grant County. She is survived by three daughters, Erminda Hernandez of Central, Eloisa Elisio of Lordsburg, Julia Valdez of Dixon, N.M., five sons, Juan Losoya of San Diego,

Utimio Udero of Central, Antonio Udero of Bayard, Faustino Udero of Central, Ramon Udero of Bayard, one sister, Mrs. Nicanora Kirker of Bayard, thirty-nine grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Rosary recitation was Wednesday, April 18, in the Curtis-Bright Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection will be 10 a.m. Thursday, April 19, in our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard with the Reverend Father Jesus Espinosa officiating at both services. Burial will follow at the Central Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Ernie Uderoo, Tony Udero, Michael Udero, Bobby Udero, Alfredo Maldonado and Ronnie Udero. Honorary pallbearers are, Ruben Udero, Paul Udero, Andy ELisio, Bobby Losoya and Fred Maldonado.

Udero: Full military honors were accorded the late Trinidad L. Udero in burial services conducted Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Santa Rita Catholic Cemetery. Rosary services were held at the home of the deceased's father, Ruperto Udero, Friday evening where the remains lay in state throughout the day. The funeral mass was said Saturday morning at the Santa Rita Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Pedro Ruiz officiating. Trinidad Udero, 29, was the victim of an accident which occurred at the copper pit of the Kennecott Copper Corp. last Thursday, Oct. 25. A portable trolley pole, breaking loose from its moorings, whipped into a group of workmen standing nearby. Mr. Udero was struck on the side of the head killing him instantly and another workman; Orville R. Peevey of Turnerville was seriously injured by a blow on the shoulder causing fractures. A third man, Leonard Langford was struck in the abdomen but was not seriously injured. An inquest, held immediately after the accident, resulted in a verdict of accidental death. A lifetime resident of Santa Rita, Mr. Udero is survived by his widow; a son and daughter; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ruperto Udero; four brothers, Antonio, Utimio, Ramon and Faustino Udero; a half-brother, Juan Josoya; three sisters, Ermelinda Holguin, Eloysa Udero and Julia

Udero; and three cousins, Ramon and Ronnie Udero and Fred Maldonado. Cox Mortuary was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Harman H Uhil, 70, well known Silver city citizen and member of a pioneer family died Thursday evening April 6 at Hillcrest hospital. Mr Uhil was the holder of considerable properties in the area and was a supporter of many civic projects. He was a member of the Episcopal church of the Good Shepard and of the local Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his widow Mrs Margaret M Uhil of Silver City; a son Herman Jr of Grants; two daughters, Mrs Ellen U Slocum and Mrs Jean Holloway of Silver city and five grandchildren. A private funeral service with Masonic prayers was held at 2:30pm Saturday at the Curtis Bright chapel. Internment followed in Memory Lane cemetery.

Funeral services were held at Cox Mortuary Saturday afternoon for Mrs. Susan E. Howie Uhli, 88, who died Thursday morning at the Provall Rest Home after a prolonged Illness, W J. Bartlett. Christian Science Reader, had charge of the services and the Silver City Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, conducted services at the chapel. Mrs. Uhli came to Silver City from St. Sebastian, Iberville County, Quebec, Canada in 1893 and was married, to Stephen Uhil in 1897. Survivors include a son, Herman H. Uhil, three grandchildren, two nephews, Elmo D. McMillan and John T. McMillan, all of Silver City, and other relatives in Canada. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Silver City Chapter, OES, a charter member of the Business arid Professional Women’s Club and the’ Silver City Women’s Club and at one time was treasurer of the Grant County Charity Hospital of Silver City. Private interment was made at the Silver City cemetery.

Uhli: Margaret McLaughlin Uhli, 86, died Wednesday in Gila Regional Medical Center. She was a lifelong resident of Silver City and was born Jan. 21, 1902. Her parents were Maud Miller McLaughlin and William S. McLaughlin. The Millers were a pioneer family of early Silver City. She attended school in Silver City and graduated from college here. After graduation she taught school locally for many years until her marriage to Herman H. Uhli. She is survived by three children, Herman H. Uhli Jr. of Artesia, Ellen Uhli of Tucson, Ariz., and Jean Uhli of Silver City; five grandchildren, Stephanie Oliver, Michael Holloway, Jeff Holloway, Bill Slocum and Howie Slocum; and three great-grandchildren, Distie Oliver, T.J. Oliver and Kiah Holloway. She was preceded in death in 1972 by her husband, Herman. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. March 3 in Memory Lane Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Inhaled of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd officiating. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels.

Ulibarri: Edward A. Ulibarri, 70, of Concho Valley, Ariz., a former Reserve resident, passed away Thursday in a hospital in Albuquerque. Mr. Ulibarri was born in Nov. 13, 1923, in Mogollon. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Lorrie S. Ulibarri; his sisiter, Isabel Chavez and her husband Eduardo; his nephews, Wayne Ulibarri, Ronnie Franks and Jerry Franks; his brothers-in-law, Ruben Serna, Patricio Serna, Gilbert Ulibarri, Dionico Gomez Delbert, Davenport and Robert Rael; and his sisters-in-law Susie Ulibarri, Dulcie Gomez. Isabelle Ulibarri, Lena Davenport, RosalieRael, Martha Serna and Eloise Serna. Mr. Ulibarri was a member of the Catholic Church; a veteran of World War II; and was a member of the American Legion and search and rescue team. He saw extensive combat action in the South Pacific Theater. He was wounded three times in action and received three Purple Hearts and other medals and decorations. He was an expert Hunter and outdoorsmen who greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Mr. Ulibarri was a deputy sheriff in Catron County for several years. He was a mail carrier between Reserve and Silver City for several years in the early 1950's. He had a great sense of humor and was a man of great compassion and humor. He will be missed by his family and friends. Rosary was recited Friday at 7 p.m. at Gabaldon memorial Chapel in Albuquerque. Interment was held Saturday in the Reserve Cemetery.

ULLERY: Melvin 0. Ullery, 57, a resident of New Mexico for 24 years; passed on Monday, Jan. 12. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Donna M. Ullery of Silver City; his sons Gerald A. Ullery of Silver City and Martin J. Ullery of Albuquerque; a daughter, Lori J. Stone, and husband, Michael, of Silver City; his grandchildren, Tamara, Malcolm and Nicola Ullery, and Collin and Bradley Stone, all of Silver City; his mother, Esther M. Dearth of Brookville, Ohio; his brothers, Wayne Ullery and wife, Cindy, of West Milton, Ohio, Mark Ullery of Port Richie, Fla., and Bruce Ullery and wife, Susan, of Brookville; his sisters, Wanda WahI and husband, Frank, of Troy, Ohio, and Beverly Price and husband, Rick, of Brookville; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Mr. Ullery was preceded in death by his father, Marvin E. Ullery. He was born in Brookville, and graduated in 1958 from Brookville High School, where he was active in band, Future Farmers of America and football. He moved out West in 1971 with his family. He was a journeyman machinist by trade and supervisor for General Electric in Albuquerque, and was most recently employed by Phelps Dodge Tyrone. Mr. Ullery enjoyed camping, fishing, music and old cars. He attended Harvest Fellowship Assembly of God Church in Silver City. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, at 2 p.m. at Harvest Fellowship Assembly of God Church in Silver City. Private family interment will take place in New Lebanon, Ohio,
 

Miss Lucy Louise Ullmen, of Silver City, passed away Sunday In an El Paso hospital She had been in ill health for several years. During her residence here of 20 years she was employed by Borenstein Department Store and the Pennington Department Store, and was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Funeral services were held at Williston, S. D where burial took place.

Umberger: Mrs. Flora F. Umberger, (Granny), grandmother of Mrs. E. Shellhorn, died February 28, 1972, at Fort Bayard Hospital. She was born in St. Clair, Pa., on January 26, 1874 and went to Colorado when she was 4 years old. After her marriage there she moved to Mogollon where she lived for 42 years. She was Assistant Postmistress and telephone operator for Henry Kelly until his death. Her husband died in 1958, and she continued to live above Mogollon until illness brought her to live with her granddaughter Golda Shellhorn in Silver City. She later moved to Bosque Farms to live with her only child Pearl Edgar. When she broke her hip she was hospitalized at Albuquerque and later transferred to Fort Bayard where she died of a heart attack at the age of 98 years. Funeral services were held March 2 with the burial in Memory Lane Cemetery. Survivors include: 3 granddaughters; Golda Shellhorn of Silver City, Sylvia Keith, Reno, Nev.; and Estelle Clark, Anderson, California; 11 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren.

Umphres: Mary Ann Umphres, 54, a Lordsburg resident, passed away Saturday in Las Cruces. Visitation will start Wednesday morning at eight at the First Baptist Church in Lordsburg and the funeral service will be held there that morning at 10 with Dave McFadden officiating. Interment will follow at the Duncan Cemetery in Duncan, Ariz. She was born the youngest of seven children on Sept. 3, 1940 in Mesquite to Virgil McCarty and Bessie Brown McCarty. She was married in Solomonville, Ariz. to Bernard Troy Umphres in 1954. The wedding took place Jan. 4, the groom's 18th birthday, when the bride was 13 years old. Mrs. Umphres was a member of the First Baptist Church and had been a resident of Lordsburg for 21 years, and had been employed as a food service director at the Hidalgo County Jail for the last seven years. She is survived by her husband, Bernard Umphres of Lordsburg; two daughters, Donna McFadden of Fort Stockton, Texas and Patsy Vaughan of Las Cruces; two sons, Rocky Umphres of Lordsburg and Rusty Umphres of Animas; her father, Virgil Pop McCarty of Las Cruces; three brothers, Leroy McCarty of Lordsburg, Jake McCarty of Animas and Benny McCarty of Skitook, Okla.; two sisters, Maybell Walsmith of Mesa, Ariz. and Vernell Rogers of Las Cruces; twelve grandchildren; and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bessie Ellen Granny McCarty; a sister, Frances Louise Johnson; a son, Bernard Troy Umphres Jr. and a granddaughter, Rebecca Jo McFadden. Pallbearers will be Billy Darnell, Lloyd Payne, Bob Hall, Thomas Flores, Lonnie Moore and Ed Cramer. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels in Deming.
Grant county mourns the passing of an outstanding citizen in the death Monday night at Silver City General hospital of Judge John J Umscheld, 71, for some years Justice of the Peace of the Bayard precinct, and one of the founders and first citizens of the Village of Bayard, who had the universal respect of the community. He had only been ill only two weeks. Judge Umscheld was born Jan. 29, 1873, In San Antonio, Texas and had-resided in Grant county 35 years Aside from his Judicial office Judge Umscheld was a large ‘property owner, having developed the Umscheld Addition in Bayard, and supported every movement for the betterment of his’ community. He was’ a member of the School Board, affiliated with the Lion’s club of which he was a past president, and was active In the Boy Scouts He gave liberally of his time and effort for ever worth while project. His loss will be felt by-the Community and he will be missed by his neighbors and friends. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Josephine Umscheld, a daughter, Mrs. Helen Heriçenhoff, Santa, Rita, and three. Grandsons Gene, John and Robert Herkenhofl. Funeral services will- be held at 2 p.m. today at the Cox Mortuary Chapel, conducted by the Christian Science Society Internment will be in Hanover.

Death last Thursday summoned Mrs. Josephine Umscheid, 76, a resident of Bayard for 50 years, who passed away at Hillcrest hospital. She was widely known n the community and was the widow of the late John J. Umscheid, a retired engineer. Survivors are her daughter, Mrs. Walter Herkinhoff of Santa Rita and three grandsons. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Curtis Mortuary chapel. The Rev. Harold E. Johnson of the Santa Rita Community Church conducted the rites, Interment was in the mausoleum in the Silver City cemetery, with committal by officers and members of Robert Taper Rebekah Lodge.
 

UNRUH: Harold Wilson Unruh, 84, a resident of Cliff, passed away Thursday morning at his home. Arrangements are pending with Bright Funeral Home.

Walter M Upchurch 77, a pioneer resident of Silver city where he had resided for 70 years died Monday at his home at 510 Howell St. He had been in ill health this past year. Mr Upchurch established one of the first garages in Silver City when automobiles made the a advent and operated also a service and filling station for many years He built a large building for this combined business at the corner of Texas and Yankie Sts. When he retired he leased the building; garage and filling station. For many years he was active in business affairs and a progressive citizen. Surviving are his wife, Mrs Helen Upchurch: a daughter, Mrs Mary Long, Deputy district Court Clerk, and a sister, Mr’ John A. Dye. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Cox Mortuary chapel, the Rev. Harold E. Johnson, pastor of the Santa Rita Community Church, conducting the rites. Burial took place in the Silver city cemetery.

Upshaw: George Upshaw of Silver City died January 4 at Hillcrest General Hospital. The funeral services were held Tuesday at the Curtis Mortuary chapel. Rites were conducted by B.M. Engleton. Burial was in Memory Lane Cemetery. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Cloria Mae Upshaw; three sons, Lucius and Larness Upshaw of Roswell and William, who has just returned for the funeral from services in Vietnam; a daughter, Mrs. Anna Lee Hanwood of Houston, TX.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Julius Bailey and Mrs. Odessa Holmes of Silver City, Mrs. Mary Davis of Houston, TX., and Mrs. Mandy Dawson of Cedar TX.

Upshaw: Will Upshaw, 73, World War I veteran and well known resident of Silver City, died Tuesday night at Fort Bayard Veterans Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Upshaw, a brother, George Upshaw and four sisters, Julia Bailey, Mrs. A. D. Dawson, Mrs. M. E. Davis and Mrs. Odessa Holmes. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Cox Mortuary.

James E. Upton, 75, a pioneer rancher of Luna County, died the past week in the Deming Hospital. He ‘was well known’ throughout Southwestern New Mexico and had resided in Deming for 73 year. Funeral services were herd Monday In the chapel of the Mahoney Funeral Home, the rites being conducted by the, Masonic Lodge of which he was a member. Burial took place in Mountain View cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lois Upton, a son, Elmo; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Portwood and Mrs. Katherine Yates; a granddaughter, Pauline Hinds and a great-grandson. Bill Hinds, all of Deming.

Funeral services for William J. Upton Jr. of Bayard, who died in a Socorro hospital Tuesday night, were held Friday afternoon at the Mahoney Funeral Home in Deming. Death resulted from injuries received in an automobile accident south of Socorro the evening of Nov. 24. He was born in Silver City Aug. 19, 1931 and spent much of his early life in the Republic of Mexico where his father was employed as a mining engineer. He attended Missouri Military Academy at Mexico, Mo., for a time and graduated from Hurley High School in 1950. Following his graduation from high school. he worked in the Grant County State Bank for a year then enlisted in the U. S. Army where he served for three rears. He spent twenty months of his enlistment time in Korea and received his discharge in July of this year, leaving the service with the rank of sergeant in the Military Police. In September he enrolled as a student in business administration at the University of New Mexico and planned to enter the banking business with his father in Bayard. His condition following surgery at the Socorro hospital had seemed to be satisfactory and plans were being made for his return home shortly when he suddenly became worse on Tuesday. Death was due to a blood clot. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William J. Upton of Bayard, and one sister.

Upton: Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the First Presbyterian Church in Deming for Mrs. Daisy Upton, who died Friday, March 14. The Rev W. A. Daulton officiated. Burial was in the family plot in the Mountain View Cemetery at Deming. Mrs. Upton, mother of William J. Upton, vice president and director of the Grant County State Bank, was born May 10, 1883 in Cedar Creek, Tex.; She was married January of 1902 to Thomas Green Upton, Whose death occurred in 1925. A pioneer resident of this area. She came to Shakespeare, near Lordsburg when she was about four years of age and shortly after her family moved to Deming where she attended school, graduating from the Deming High School in 1901. She then attended Ward Seminary at Nashville, Tenn. Mrs. Upton served with the New Mexico State Department of Welfare for a period of 15 years, retiring last fall because of ill health. She was a member of the B&PW Club of Deming. Other survivors are two grandchildren, Barbara and William Upton, Jr., a sister, Mrs. Edward G. Schultz of Cincinnati O. and a brother, Wallace W. Wamel of Pomona, Calif. A daughter Evelyn Upton, died in 1924

Upton: Lola Turner Upton, 90, a former Deming resident passed away Saturday at the Ware Memorial Care Center in Amarillo Texas. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5-8 at Baca's Funeral Chapels in Deming and the funeral service will begin at 10 Saturday mornings at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Carl Zimmerman, pastor, officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Deming with services conducted by the Order of the Eastern Star, Ruth Chapter No.6. Mrs. Upton was born Jan. 28, 1906, in Silver City to John Wesley Turner and Lola Montes Franks Turner. She graduated from the University of Arizona in 1925 and married William James Upton on Sept. 6, 1926, in Mexico City. They lived for 20 years in Mexico, where Mr. Upton was a mining engineer. They left Mexico in 1947 and moved to Grant County, establishing the Grant County Bank. After the death of their son, Billy, they moved to Albuquerque and attended the University of New Mexico where Mr. Upton obtained his law degree. He practiced law in Albuquerque and Mrs. Upton look graduate courses In Spanish, French and Portuguese. Mr. Upton served as state commissioner of banking so they moved to Santa Fe for five years. When they retired to Deming, be served two terms in the state Legislature, representing Luna and Hidalgo counties. Mrs. Upton owned and operated a flower shop for eight years in Bayard. The shop was opened at the same time the Grant County Bank was established. Grant County Bank is now a part of Sunwest bank. Mr. Upton served as a director of the Grant County for 17 years. She was a regent at Western New Mexico University for 18 years; a trustee of the Deming First Presbyterian Church and a founder of the Deming Luna Members Museum. She was active with the Daughters of the American Revolution and also held membership In Phi Kappa Phi at the University of Arizona. Urenda: Richard Daniel Urenda Jr., 16, a Silver City resident, died Friday in Silver City. Visitation will begin at three this afternoon at Baca's Funeral Chapels in Deming and the prayer vigil will be held there this evening at six followed by an Apostolic service at seven. Mass of the resurrection will be celebrated Thursday morning at ten at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Deming with the Rev. Alfred Galvan officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. He was born April 3, 1979 in Albuquerque to Richard Urenda and Rosie Salas. He was a former Deming resident and had been a resident of Silver City for the past three years. He had attended school in Silver City. Among the things he enjoyed doing was drawing. Survivors include his father, Richard Urenda of Battle Mountain, Nev.; his mother, Rosie Salas Saavedra and her husband, Manuel Saavedra Jr. of Silver City; a brother, Raymond Urenda of Silver City; three sisters, Annette Urenda of Deming, Kathrine Urenda Parra and her husband, Charlie of Las Cruces and Rosalva Saavedra of Silver City; his grandparents, Tomas and Mary Salas, Victoria Urenda, Lydia Parra Saavedra and Manuel Duarte Saavedra, all of Deming; and a nephew, Charles Abraham Parra of Las Cruces. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Juan Urenda on April 11, 1995. Pallbearers will be Frank and Tommy Joe Salas, Richard A. Cisneros, Christian Veloz, Gabe Torrez and Alfonso Perez. Usinger: Edna Usinger Murfield, former Silver City resident, died Friday in West Chester, Pa. She was 87. Survivors include a daughter, Jean U. Peterson of Silver City; a son, Emmett C. Usinger of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, including Richard A. Peterson of Silver City; and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be Friday, Sept. 5 at the Schuylkill Haven cemetery in Pennsylvania. Arrangements are by the Bailey Funeral Chapel, Norristown, Pa.

Livingston Utter, 74, died August 22 at Long Beach, Calif., where he had retired for many years. He was a member of the pioneer George H. Utter’ family of Silver City, associated with his father, who had extensive mining properties in grant and hidalgo counties. Surviving are his widow, Mrs Florence Utter, son Robert Utter and daughter, Mrs Helen Gordon all of Long Beach. Funeral services took place in Long Beach followed by burial.

UTTON: Professor Albert E. Utton, 67 of the University of New Mexico faculty of~ law died Tuesday, Sept. 29,. at University Hospital after a courageous fight with prostate cancer. Born in Aztec, he joined the law faculty in 1962, specializing in natural resources and international law. He is survived by Mary, 4 his wife Of 40 years; their son, John Utton, and his wife, Rose; their daughter, Jennifer Fergusson, and her husband, Berkeley; two grandsons, Berkeley Jr. and John; his brother, Arthur Utton, and his wife, Edna; and many cousins, nephews and nieces, many of whom still reside in the Farmington/Aztec area. He graduated from UNM in 1953 with Phi Beta Kappa honors in geology and then attended Ox-ford University as a Rhodes Scholar, receiving his law’ degree in 1956. After serving in England as assistant staff judge advocate in the U.S. Air Force, he returned to New Mexico and began his career at the university. Over the course of four decades, he taught thousands of students and took an active part in university life and affairs. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral, at 318 Silver Ave. S.W., Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Albert E. Utton Memorial Award in Natural Resources, UNM School of Law, 1117 Stanford, Albuquerque, NM 87131.

Uzueta; Anita Sandoval Uzueta, 60, died April 4 at Memorial General Hospital in Las Cruces. She was born Sept. 13, 1923 in Deming and has been a life long resident. She was a member of the St. Ann's Catholic Church. Rosary was held April 6 at Baca's Wheeler Mortuary Chapel and the Funeral Mass was held April 7 at St. Ann's Catholic Church with Fr. Mike Macaya officiating and burial at Mountain View Cemetery. Mrs. Uzueta is survived by her husband, Luis Uzueta of Deming; two sons, Luis Uzueta Jr. of Gordon, Neb. and David Uzueta of Deming; two daughters, Dolly Uzueta of Deming and Mary White of Chicago, Ill. and three grandchildren. Arrangements by Baca's Wheeler Mortuary. In a one car accident at 2 a.m. Tuesday on State Highway 180 41/2 miles east of Santa Rita, Rudy Valerio, 19, of Santa Rita, was killed and the driver of the car. Roland. C. Comes, 20, was critically injured. Four other passengers in the car. Ray Rodriguez, 15; Danny Ortiz, 18; Jesus Murrillo, 19, and Jesus Martinez, of Santa Rita, received minor Injuries and after emergency treatment at Hillcrest General Hospital, were discharged. Gomez was transferred from the hospital here to an El Paso hospital for treatment by’ a specialist because of a spinal injury. Capt. Joe Roach of the State Police investigated the accident with deputies of the Sheriff’s Department. The car went out of control, hurtled end over end and roiled down a canyon It was Grant County’s seventh highway fatality this year and brought the State’s toll to 143 so far this year. Rosary services were held at the Santa Rita Catholic Church at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening followed by mass at 10 am. Today Burial will take place at 4:30 this afternoon in the Hanover cemetery.
