Zamora: Carolina Telles Zamora, 80, a Deming resident, died Tuesday in Mimbres Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be today at 4:30 p.m. at Baca's Funeral Chapels with the prayer service this evening at 7 and the funeral service Friday afternoon at 2. George Martinez and Jose Ramirez of the Apostolic Church will preside and interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. She was born Jan. 12, 1909, in Hillsboro and was a homemaker. She was a resident of Deming since 1969 and was a member of the Apostolic Church. Survivors include three sons, Celso Zamora of Silver City, Jose Elizardo Zamora of Deming and Gilbert Zamora of Truth or Consequences, five daughters, Viola Rodney and Delphina Harrison, both of Deming, Eluvina Ortega of Bayard, Pricilla Tafoya of Truth or Consequences and Cora Garcia of Dona Ana, 34 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Baca's Funeral Chapels is in charge of arrangements.

Zamora: Juana G. Zamora, 61, died Saturday in Silver City. Mrs. Zamora was born in Hanover and was a lifelong resident of Grant County. She was a communicant of the Holy Family Catholic Church of Hanover. Mrs. Zamora is survived by her husband, Mariano Q. Zamora of Central, two sons, Paul Zamora of Tucson, Ariz., and Richard Zamora of Silver City, three brothers, Ramon Y Gomez of Pico Rivera, Calif., Raymundo Gomez of Montebello, Calif., and Arturo Altamirano of Lakewood, Calif., and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Tomas Gomez, in 1983. Rosary recitation will be held at 7 tonight in the Wheeler Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Melchor Dano officiating. Mass of the resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Hanover with the Rev. Ricardo Hinojal officiating. Burial will follow in the Silver City Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Paul Zamora Jr., Sammy Zamora, Robert Perea, Rene Perea, Senovio Perea Jr. and Larry Gomez. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Ojinaga and Larry Sifuentes. Arrangements are with the Wheeler Funeral Home of Silver City.

Zamora: Mariano Quintana Zamora, 67, a lifetime resident of Grant County, entered eternal rest Wednesday at Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born July 14, 1923, in Jarales, N.M. He retired as a truck driver from Chino Mines Co. He was a member of Local 890 of the United Steelworkers union, and a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church in Hanover. Calling hours are to be held today from 2-9 p.m. in Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels, where rosary services are to be held at 7 tonight. Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10 in Holy Family Catholic Church. Concluding services will follow in the Silver City Catholic Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. The Rev. Paulus Kao will officiate in all services. Survivors include his wife, Gloria Villalobos Zamora of Central, two sons, Paul G. Zamora Sr. of Tucson, Ariz., and Richard G. Zamora of Silver City, three brothers, Senovio Q. Perea of Silver City, Cristobal Q. Perea of Pomona, Calif., and Bennie Q. Perea of Central, two sisters, Lucilla Q. Apodaca of Jarales, and Manuela Q. Lovato of Covina, Calif., and six grandchildren, Paul M. Zamora Jr., Samuel M. Zamora and Mariano Felix M. Zamora, all of Tucson, and Jacob R. Zamora, Aaron H. Zamora and Jade D. Zamora, all of Silver City. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Juana G. Zamora, in 1987, and a brother, Felix Apodaca. Casket bearers will be Samuel Zamora, Juan Maestas, Senovio Perea Jr., Rumaldo Barela, Frank Gomez and Robert Perea. Honorary bearers will be Art Altamirano, Bill Lovato, Felix Lovato, Joe Sierra, Raymondo Tafoya, Moy Perez, Gilbert Holguin and all his grandchildren. Zamora, Orlando M. Zamora, 30 died Tuesday in Grant County. Orlando was born in Santa Rita, but had been living in Las Cruces until he returned to Grant County three years ago. He as a 1972 graduate of Las Cruces High School, graduate of the Dona Ana Branch at New Mexico State University, member of Union Local 16 and a communicant of St. Francis Newman Center. Orlando is survived by his wife Paula Zamora of Central, one daughter, Christina Rae Zamora of Central, two sons, Tyrel Paul Zamora, and Jesus M. Zamora III both of Central, his parents Jesus and Carmen H. Zamora of Las Cruces, two sisters, Dora Marie Zamora of Las Cruces and Irene James of Paradise, Ca, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Rosary recitation was held Friday at the Wheeler Funeral Home Chapel and Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated Saturday at St. Francis Newman Center with Father Robert Goetz officiating both services. Interment followed at the Central Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Alex Mendoza, Joe Alejandrez, Joe Talamantes, Robert Waller, Gene Martinez and Mike Hernandez. Arrangements by the Wheeler Funeral Home of Silver City.

Zamora, Rosa Sancez Zamora, 80, died May 2 in Silver City. Mrs. Zamora was born in Solmonville, AZ. and was a life-long resident of Grant County. She was a communicant of Santa Clara Catholic Church in Central. Her husband, Thomas Zamora, preceded her in death in1981. Mrs. Zamora is survived by seven daughters, Helen Z. Hernandez, Genevieve Z. Martinez, Rosemary Z. Arellano and Mary Helen Giberti of Silver City, Elvira Z. Walters of Deming, Aurora Z. Mendoza of Las Cruces and Eloisa Z. Maldonado of Phoenix, AA, four sons, Jesus M. Zamora of Las Cruces, Elifa S. Zamora of El Paso, TX, Tommy S. Zamora of Arenas Valley and Robert A. Zamora of Central, three nieces, 38 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Rosary recitation was held May 4 at Santa Clara Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated May 5 at the Santa Clara Catholic Church with Father Robert Getz and Father Paul Ragazinsk as officiating. Interment followed at the Central Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Robert Zamora II, Gene Martinez, Robbie Walters, David Zamora, Alfred Mendoza, Thomas Gerald Zamora, Mike Hernandez, Christopher Arellano and Manny Hernandez. Honorary pallbearers were Maria Maldonado, Dora Zamora, Mary Helen Giberti, Lorraine Anglin, Gloria Keethler, Yolanda Crockett, Mary Lillen Mendoza, Kathy Zamora, Rhonda Zamora and Saundra Arellano. Zamora: Thomas Padilla Zamora died Wednesday, Sept. 2 at his home in Central. Mr. Zamora had been a lifelong resident of Grant County and had retired from Kennecott in 1968. Survivors include his wife, Rosa Zamora of Central, six daughters, Helen Hernandez, Gena Martinez, Rosemary Arellano, all of Silver City, Elvira Walters of Deming, Aurora Mendoza of Las Cruces and Eloisa Maldonado of Phoenix, Ariz., four sons, Jesus Zamora of Las Cruces, Elifas Zamora of El Paso, Robert Zamora of Central and Tommy Zamora of Arenas Valley. He is also survived by three sisters, Justa Avilucea of Hatch, Manuela Casares of California and Dora Casares of Las Cruces, 39 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Rosary recitation was held Friday, Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5. Both services were at the Santa Clara Catholic Church in Central with Father Paul Ragazinsk as officiating. Interment followed in the Central Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were his grandsons, Arnold Zamora, Eddie Hernandez, Eugene Martinez, Sammy Zamora, Robert Walters, Alex Mendoza, Gerald Zamora, Robert Zamora and Chris Arellano. ZAPATA: Josefa G. Zapata 83, a resident of San Lorenzo, passed away Sunday at her home. She was born June 26, 1912, in Leopold, N.M. to Sebastian and Mulinela Garcia. She was a teacher by profession. She began her teaching career in 1937 at San Loreazo Elementary Schools. After a break between 1938 and 1942, she taught continuously for 38 years in elementary at San Loreazo and Hanover, and in the Cohre School District. She graduated from New Mexico State Teachers College in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. From 1968 to 1971, in addition to her regular teaching schedule, she taught night school at Western New Mexico University, preparing foreign nationals for citizenship examination. She was a longtime member of the National Education Association, NEA-New Mexico and Delta Kappa Gamma. She retired from the Cobre District in 19814 but continued working as a substitute teacher at the San Lorenzo Elementary School. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Willie Zapata of San Loicazo, her Son Willie Zapala Jr., and his wife, Micki, of Silver City, and three grandsons, Antonio Zapata of Lorcnzo, and Joseph and Nicolas Zapata of Silver City. She was preceded in death by her brothers Rainon and Ansehflo Garcia, and her sister, Natalia Gonzalez. Visitation will begin at 3 Wednesday afternoon at Baca's Funeral Chapels followed by the rosary at 7. The Mass of resurrection will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard. Burial will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery. Casket bearers will he Feliz Roybal, Ralph Toya Sepulveda, Santiago Flinojosa, Al Anglin, Bobby Mares and Jose M. Salas. Honorary bearers are Loitilio L. Garcia, Mike Molina Sr., Robert Jararniflo, Aliredo Chavez, Al Schainpeisi Ruben

Zapata: Adelina Holguin Zapata, 69, a former Central resident entered eternal rest at St. Mary's Hospital in Tucson, Ariz., on Monday. She was born April 21, 1925, in Silver City. Mrs. Zapata was a homemaker and Catholic by faith. She had resided in Arizona for the past 35 years. She is survived by her husband, Antonio A. Zapata of Tucson, a son Henry Andazola, and his wife Charlotte, of Espanola, a daughter, Mariz Lucia Lopez, and her husband, Ramon, of Tucson, her sisters, Cecilia Barrios of Silver City, Dora Ramirez and her husband, Ruben, of Tucson, and Lilly Saiz and her husband, Rodger, of Central, her brothers, Gilbert Holguin and his wife, Lucy, of Central, and Arturo Holguin and his wife, Lilly, also of Central, three grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Calling hours will begin at 5 this evening, at Baca's Funeral Cahpels, followed by the rosary at 7 with Deacon Johnnie Perez reciting. The Mass of resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Santa Clara Catholic Church in Central with the Rev. Mike Lindsay officiating. The rite of committal will be held at the Central cemetery. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels.

Zapata: Jose (J.D.) Zapata, 102, died Saturday in Silver City. Mr. Zapata was born April, 1879 in Manos, Chih., Mexico. At the age of three months he came to the frontier town of Silver city tobe raised by his grandmother. He worked as a maintenance man for American National Bank for 331/2? years before retiring in 1954. As a well-known figure in the community, Mr. Zapata served as the Grand Marshall of the 1981 Fourth of July Parade. He was also a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, a member and past president of the Alianza Hispana Americana #17 and a member of the Sacred Heart League. Survivors include three daughters, Filomena R. Zapata and Sofia Z. Lucero, both of Silver City and Avelina Z. Gallegos of Albuquerque, one son, Adolfo R. Zapata of Silver City, a sister, Mrs. Marcolva Ramirez of El Paso, two sons-in-law, Alfred Lucero of Silver City and Benny Gallegos of Albuquerque, one daughter-in-law, Bessie M. Zapata of Silver City, 15 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Rosary recitation was held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. and Mass of the Resurrection was on Wednesday at 9:30. Both services were at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Monsignor A. James Milano officiating. Interment followed in the Catholic Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were Alfred Lucero, Bennie Gallegos, Herald Gallegos, Wilfred Gonzales, Jose Ramirez, and Felix Zapata. Honorary pallbearers were Pat Donigan,Luciano Montez, Freddie Clark, Ramon Garcia, Roy Anthony, Ricardo Marquez, Adolfor Gonzales and Inez Ybarra. Arrangements were by Curtis-Bright Funeral Home.

Zasmur: Manuel Acosta, Word was received in Silver City this week of the death in New York City of Mrs. Ester Zasmur May 5. She was the wife of Dr Joseph Zasmur who was a member of the medical staff at Fort Bayard from about 1942 to 1946. Mrs. Zasmur had many friends in Silver City and her early demise came as a shock to them. She was about 40 years of age.

Mahmoud Zedan, a merchant at Bayard, died last Friday at Hillcrest Hospital. He owned and operated the Bargain House-and was well known in the community. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Kazren Zedan and a son. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Curtis Mortuary chapel, the Rev. Harold E. Johnson of Santa Rita Community Church conducting, the rites. Burial was In the Sliver. City cemetery.

Zemmer: Franklin Conrad Zemmer, 87, a resident of Deming, died today in Silver City. Services are pending with Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels.

Olaf B. Zewadsqi, 68, World War I veteran, died August 4 at Fort Bayard Veterans Hospital. He was born in Ocala Florida. Surviving is his wife Mrs. Irene Zewadsqi of Reading, Mass. Funeral services were held in the Fort Bayard chapel with burial in the cemetery there under direction of the Wheeler Mortuary In Deming.

Zimmerman: Leta Pearl Zimmerman, 88, of Silver City passed away Sunday at Gila Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Zimmerman was born Dec. 1, 1904, to Allen and Addie (Gracey) Marshall in Evergreen, Ontario, Canada. She is survived by a son, Dale Allen Zimmerman of Silver City, and a grandson, Allan D. Zimmerman of Tucson, Ariz. Contributions in her name may be made to a favorite charity. Cremation services were under the direction of Curtis-Bright Funeral Home of Silver City.

Abraham Zucker, 72, a veteran of World War I, serving in the U.S. Army, passed away last Friday ‘at Fort Bayard Veterans Hospital. He was a resident of Grant County for the past 30 years residing at the Elks Club in Silver City. He was an active member of the Elks Lodge. His birthplace was Philadelphia Survivor are a niece, Mrs. Sidney Rothblatt of Daly City, Calif. Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Wheeler Mortuary at Deming. The body was shipped to San Francisco for services in the Sinai Memorial Chapel. Burial with full military honors was in Golden Gate National Cemetery at San Bruno, Calif.

Charles A. Zumwalt, 73, a resident of this area for the past 35 years, died at his residence in Silver City Sunday morning: Graveside services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Sliver City cemetery with the Rev. Rhea Kuckendall officiating. He is survived by his wife: one son, C. A. Zumwalt, Jr., of Silver City two daughters, Mrs. Ada Mayes and Mrs. Nettle Place, four grand children and one great grandchild, one sister, Mrs. Annie’ Hightower, and five brothers, Frank Boyn, Will, Adam and Jim. Pallbearers were A. N. Traynor Young Wells, Ted Brannon, T. J. Price, A. V. Wilkersori and Joe Place, Sr. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Cox Mortuary."

Funeral services for Frank Zumwalt who died southwest of Deming, were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Assembly of God church, the Rev James Trewern officiating. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary. Zumwalt past away Wednesday at a local hospital where he had been confined for five weeks. Born Aug. 30, 1878 in Kerr County TX. Zumwalt had lived here for 23 years. He came to Roswell with his parents when he was three years old, was married to Josie Ethel Bishop, March 20, 1904 and worked on, various ranches in New Mexico. He ranched at Capitan for several years, moved to Mule Creek, ranched there until i945 when he moved to Deming for his health. Survivors include his wife, Josie Zumwalt, and three sons, Leonard

Zumwalt, Delbert Zumwalt and Alvin Zumwalt, all of Deming, three daughters, Alice Latham, Deming, Elsie Cornwell Pico Rivera, Calif. and Lola Lawrence, T or C, 24 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services were held Monday in the Silver City Cemetery for George G. Zumwalt, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. George N. Zumwalt, who passed away the past week. The Rev. C. C. Rogers held the committal rites. Burial was under the direction of the Curtis Mortuary.

Mrs. Mary A. Zumwalt, 79, of Silver City, resident of Grant County for 50 years, pasted away Tuesday at her home. She had lived most of her life, until seven years ago, at Mule Creek here she and her husband, Boyd? Zumwait owned and operated a ranch. The survivors are a son, Erv Goats of Mule Creek, daughter, Mrs. Ruby Brennan, of Silver City, a granddaughter, Christie of Silverton TX, and a brother, Charles Myers of Alamogordo. Funeral services are set for Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Curtis Mortuary chapel, Burial will in Memory Lane Cemetery.

Bowen N. Zumwalt, a 56-year resident of Silver City and Mule Creek, died. He was 81 years old and a retired rancher. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ted Brannon of Silver City, a son, Ervin Goats of Mule Creek, a granddaughter, a sister, Mrs. Annie Hightower of Tucson, Ariz. Services will be conducted in the chapel of the Curtis Mortuary at 2 p.m. Friday and burial will be in the Memory Lane Cemetery.

Zumwalt: Leonard Pane Zumwalt Sr., 85, of Silver City entered life eternal Friday morning at Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born June 19, 1906, in Tulia, Texas, and had been a Silver City resident since his retirement in l979. Mr. Zumwalt was a farmer and rancher in the Deming area most of his life. Calling hours will be from 5-7 this evening in Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels, and from 9-11 Tuesday morning. Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 in Memory Lane Cemetery with Pastor Atchley of the Faith Baptist Church officiating. Survivors include his wife, Bessie M. Zumwalt of Silver City, two sons, Leonard P. Zumwalt Jr. of Duncan, Ariz., and George N. Zumwalt of Phoenix, three daughters, Vera L. Rooks of Silver City, Carole Bennett of Arizona City, Ariz., and Judy F. Morris of Antelope Wells, a brother, Delbert Zumwalt of Deming, two sisters, Alice Latham of Colorado City, Texas, and Lola Lowrance of Truth or Consequences, 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels.

Zumwalt, Mrs. Mildred P. Zumwalt, 70, died Feb 29 at her home in Kingman, AZ. Mrs. Zumwalt was born in Silver City, Feb. 3,1914, the daughter of Rufus E. and Estella Minor Dinwiddie. Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Estella Dinwiddie of Santa Fe, a daughter, Mrs. Betty Summers of Longdale, Nev., two sons, Charles E. Zumwalt and Ron Zumwalt of Battle Mountain, NV, one sister, Mrs. Harriett Boyd, three brothers, Ervin Dinwiddie, Robert Dinwiddie and Lonnie Dinwiddie. Serving as pallbearers were Tim Summers, Rip Summers, Tim Bliss, Sean Zumwalt, Ronnie Wayne Zumwalt Jr. and Mike Dinwiddie. Graveside services were held March 5 at Memory Lane Cemetery with Mr. Frank Rooks officiating. Arrangements by the Curtis-Bright Funeral Home.
