Orange Cemetery The land for cemetery was donated by James William Brownfield, born in Alabama, and his wife Elizabeth L. Able Brownfield, born in Mississippi. They came into Texas around 1870. They left Texas in 1883 and were one of the first families to settle in the Sacramento Mountains. They had only lived there about three years then moved to Crow Flat, the southern part of Lincoln County, which became Otero County in 1899. They built a rock house, in what was later to become Orange Community. James and Elizabeth, along with five of their children and many other family members, are buried here. The first grave in Orange was the son of James and Elizabeth. Samuel Jackson Brownfield, who was killed by a horse June 18, 1892 at the age of 19. He was the third child out of fourteen children. Location 80 miles East of El Paso, TX is a small farming community - Dell City, Texas. In Dell City take Farm Road 1576 N for 9 miles. Here you will hit the New Mexico State Line. Go for another 3 1/2 miles and the Cemetery is on the left 1/4 mile off the road.
